Make a container to carry the two streams of S3D files (L and R) in it, with adjustable vertical and horizontal.

Also make these stereo-r3d files (.sr3d?) native with FCP, cs5, and avid with full control of the metadata, accelerated by cuda, or even openCL when it develops. You win.

If you did this, you make redundant the step of muxing with cineform (but still necessary now).

If you can have an .sr3d container with the muxed S3D image, with the left and right images separable and independently adjustible for the color disparity due to the polarizing glass, you win.

If you push this along with redrocket v2 to cope with processing 10K worth of epic images, you win.

Hands down.

I am not saying that is not a good idea but to be honest i don´t see the benefit for RED they already exist solutions to the set workflow and i could guess that 2 x 5k images is faster to move than 1 10k image ... it just doesn´t look to much like a RED aproach, not that i can talk in the name of red :D

I think its still too early in 3D for these over integrated approaches.

RED will wipe the board next year in 3D with a tiny lightweight camera that Genlocks at all framerates and consume not too much power.

We have a DIT on set that can handle 3D. With two sets of files. He can check the motion blur on the clapper board to confirm that genlock is true. None of your suggestions in the current state and near future sate of industry will save any money and most likely only cause headaches. In any case you want to do your adjustments physically and match the digital pixels one on top of one another.

Year after next or the year after... Once post really understands what they want, we really understand what we want and we have moores law on storage then yeah. Lets just get the buggers to genlock at 48fps for now eh?

yep

yep

I agree Thomas, and i have posted myself that possible problem with the sync at 48 fps, I steel haven´t figured out what to do with my Mistika Lives and the future epics at 48 fps, grr red outputs have not been the best of the best and for 3D we need to get an acurate information I hope they resolve it properly. I am not really worried about 48 sync I know they will figure it out but a couple of months ago i made this question to the dealers an i only had loooong senseless answers :d i can guess the money and the need of the 3D will make it happen really fast.
