  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

How often do you use the higher FPS rates?

I, just like everyone else enjoy silky smooth slowmo, but in a narrative how often do you guys need to overcrank the footage? And what do you normally go up to? 48, 60, 120?

I find I often rely on slow-mo to heighten the drama of b-roll footage. As much as I love my scarlet it really is tough to switch to 3k or 2k to get 48 or 60fps. All your lenses are compromised and cropped. Getting better frame rates at 4k would be my number one feature request for the future.

I shoot everything at 120fps with HDRx on, and then conform to 24fps or 30p whenever I need regular speed... that way I've always got the slo-mo and tons of DR to fall back on if I went to use time-ramping or get into uncertain lighting conditions... Basically makes it so I can't have a bad shot...

... heh.

Didn't think it would be a big deal, but once you don't have it, you want it. It is just another tool to tell your story. Most the time you don't need it, but if you had it you would use it. Do you need a steadicam, or a jib? No, but when you have them they add an other element and level of production value. Once you see how awesome 120 frame slowmotion looks, you definitely could think up some great ways to use it to help tell your story. Scarlet, the gateway drug to an Epic.

Calling Scarlet the gateway drug to the epic is pretty much on point. The limited frame rate on scarlet while not the end of the world, definitely makes the epic drool worthy. I'd love to see a firmware upgrade giving the Scarlet at least 60fps at 4k.

Adam, you are going to get adverse reactions from people here just by asking a legitimate question.. So get used to it!.

The highest I usually go is 3k 48fps. I find that is about all I can handle crop-wise.

Certainly not trying to start anything and hopefully I don't. I love my scarlet and there's some things I would never change and there's some things that could be improved. FPS that was originally advertised wasn't delivered and I totally get that specs change and I am not upset. In fact many things that were not originally advertised were delivered above and beyond. That being said I do love being able to shoot slow motion without major cropping and shooting 1k is unacceptable, even 2k cropped is a major compromise. I think extensive frame rates are becoming the norm for even most pro-sumer cameras. I hope that in the future we see it available in an upgrade. I'd much prefer more frame rate options at 4k than more resolution at 5k or 6k. I don't think I'm alone in this.
