We are in the process of acquiring a Scarlet-X Camera, and my concern is how to power it in the field.

We, of course, use Red Brick Batteries to power our Red-One, but they do not last very long, especially if you are holding for long periods before actually shooting. And, that's why we have 4 of them.

What I want to know is, what kind of shooting time do you get with a Scarlet-X Camera powered by RedVolt Batteries inside the DSMC Side Handle? Is it sufficient? Is it adequate?

Would you get a "LOT" more if the Scarlet was powered by Red Brick Batteries, and if so, how much more?

If you work in the field a lot with your Scarlet, please let me know the power issues you have, if any.

Thanks for your time.

George

i get about 30 min a red volt. with 8 volts and a quad charger i never seem to have problems

There are many conversations around here about power, so you should take a look as there are so many options out there I couldn't possibly remember them all to mention to you.

However, with regard to Redvolts I'd say I get about 40 minutes per Redvolt in the side handle. I do prefer to shoot with Bricks or Redvolt XLs though when I am on longer shoots but having a rv in the side handle while shooting allows you to do some hot swapping of batteries and does give you a lot of extra time in the field. With 4 rv batteries in my kit and 4 redbricks I never find that I running out of power, but I do always keep my dead batteries on chargers any way. With the 4 rv and the 4 rb combination that I use most often I don't think I would ever find myself wishing I had more batteries unless I was not able to get to a charger. However, I do have some spare rvs that I keep in another case if I'm planning on being gone for a while.

I get about 2 hours per Red Brick, and 25-30 Min on Redvolts. Between my 2 Bricks and 6 volts I haven't run out of power in a single day of shooting.

3hrs for 150whr brick and 20 to 25 min per redvolt

Purchased mine used probably a few years old.
I can get 20 close to 25 maybe.
There are times when I drain in 15 but hasnt happened in awhile.
I probably let the buggers sit too long and think its still full :)

Hi, unfortunately the redvolts go down very quickly. Not because of the recording, it's rather the fan activity. I purchased the 4 pack solution and definitely it's not enough when you are in the field. It makes you turn ON/OFF the Red every 15-20 sec.
i will have to switch to a more powerful source...
some say, it's not a matter of size, but the way you move it that counts... WRONG! Bigger is better!

Unlike the RED ONE - Scarlet uses much less power.
I get on average 3+ hours from RED BRICKs and 25~30 min from a REDVOLT...

Peter

EDIT: The best bit is that when RED BRICK runs flat - the brain will automatically switch to the SIDE HANDLE's REDVOLT and I can then swap the RED BRICK without needing to power down the camera. I can also do so even if the RED BRICK is not yet empty. This is one of my favorite things about having the SIDE HANDLE. So I use 4 RED BRICKs and 2 REDVOLTs, where the REDVOLTs are just the backup allowing me to swap the RED BRICKs...

not enough time, is what I rate my redvolts at. 30-40 minutes tops. I only use them for hotswaping my bricks. Or super super light hand held needs, like hanging out of a car, 3" from the ground getting traffic shots for b-roll type of shots. Bricks are king, but these little redvolts, love them or hate them, do have a place in the field.
