Considering the Raven, but being new to RED, wondering what I can go 3rd party on and what is proprietary?

Can I use Anton Bauer battiers?
Small HD 502 monitor?
Standard SSDs?
OD7Q with external recording?

Also, how do I get audio in? Is there an XLR module or other audio input options, and must they be purchased from RED?

Yes
Yes (but still need a RED touch lcd, or other accessories, to access menus)
No
Yes (redundand, unless you don't buy Redmag at all)

Audio, you have stereo minijack on (I/O) modules. You can have 2 mono signal via WC A-box or simple to do y cables

Excellent! Thank you.

1. Is there stereo minijack built into the brain/body itself? I couldn't find this info, sorry! If so that is great. I would like to use a simple minijack to XLR adapter cable I have with my shotgun microphone setup.

2. I assume the onboard audio monitoring view the Red touch LCD is good? And it sounds like the WC A-box is a great solution to plug directly into the Raven brain/body itself to get 2x XLR which would also be detected in the RED software and configurably via the Touch screen?

3. So there is no need for the expander module unless I want to get more advanced? This is important to me both from a cost perspective, and from a compact, run'n'gun and weight perspective.

4. The Redmag is really expensive, but I know you got to play to pay. Is there a chart somewhere showing what to expect for recording times and GB per minute at various settings?

5. I may need to consider an external recorded. It looks like I need the $700 Limo cable set in order to do this though, is that correct? Or can I plug an external recorder directly into the body?

6. Thoughts on AB batteries VS the red system?

1-No. You need I/O module, I/O relates to in/out connections
2-Personally I found audio and audio control on lcd more than satisfactory, on the Scarlet/Epic MX (condenser shotguns and radio clips). I used to use an A-box, but on the Raven I will maybe use y custom cables
3-You need it. Or a simple power plate, but then you don't have audio/video connections. Internal mic only
4-red.com/tools/recording-time
5-You don't, really. Start with 1 120GB and buy another one later. If you can't really afford It, think twice if it's the right camera for you
6-AB has better locking mechanism. V-lock is much much common use
7-Rent a Red and study more before buying. Start downloading camera PDF
