So I was able to speak with my bomb squad rep (who shall be unnamed) today, just to check in on my Stage 2 payment. I was also curious to know just how many people have reserved Stage 2? I was told that no one is exactly sure how many people have reserved Stage 2. Then I was told around 1,000 and then told that most of the RED one owners have reserved stage 2...around 5-6 thousand considering delivery date deadlines ect.

Since the deadline is over, the number must be finite now right?

:Begin Rant:

How can a companies main sales representatives not know how many cameras are on reserve? If they are not authorized to say, why not just say that? Why would it be a bad thing to let people know how many cameras have been reserved for stage 2? The bomb squad guys are great at helping me get my payments through and have excelled at coordinating purchases, but whenever I ask for some hard information Im always told that "I dont really have any idea as to how to answer that, i figure this stuff out off reduser just the same as you."

Arent the bomb squad crew part of the first response and first interaction that a customer has to RED as a company other than reduser?

Many of us plan our business around what you guys are releasing and not having somewhat of an accurate idea of how many people have purchased a product is quite odd IMHO.

Information is power so why not empower customers to make knowledgeable decisions that correspond to how many cameras are on reserve?

:end rant: deep breath

You guys have a great company and one that I as well as many of us on here have bought into, all im asking for is a little information to help me build my company :)

Thx.

NO privately-owned company is going to give you an indication of projected sales. RED is in a very sensitive position right now. With Epic about to launch that info is just too valuable to rival companies. You are being completely unrealistic.

Bomb squad guys are cool dudes..
doesnt mean they have all the info in the world:)

Top level info gets filtered..

dont expect to get info that doesnt pertain to their duties
I.E. - support/sales

Eric - chill please

I wouldn't be surprised that indeed the Bomb squad are not informed of these figures, that avoids them having to be told they can't give them out. I also think it is quite understandable Red will not give out this information. I wouldn't mind knowing, then again I dont think my business (we are a rental house) realy depends on knowing how many of such and such cameras are out there, although we do need to know who our competitors are and what they are offering.

Now to speculation, I would say the stage 2 deal being such a great deal, a great many people and companies have taken that option, but some weren't able to, some prefered stage 3, some with multiple cameras didn't do it with all their cameras, so all in all I would guestimate between half and two thirds of Reds will be executed towards stage 2.

Cheers,
Damien

gee ya ... why don't they just publish the daily balance sheet as well ... I wonder what Sony and Panasonic tell their customers ... that's assuming you get to talk to someone ...

Wow... I for one am glad they don't say anything.

I would seriously doubt that five to six thousand have reserved stage two. It'd be a fun fact to know, but I doubt they will ever release a number, even if approximate. And all the ranting in the world isn't going to make a private company disclose anything they don't want to. You wouldn't disclose vital information to your competition about your company's operations, would you? It's a free country and they can proceed however they want. There, anti-rant answer over.

Deadline for deposit is June 1st. If people fail to shell out the $5,000, then there Stage 2 placeholder is lost. Red won't know the answer to your question until they see how many people ponied up the money. I for one haven't paid yet . . .

True, many executed or so I hazard to guess, but how many are going to miss putting in the $5K. Just a few I'm sure but numbers can't be determined until that time.

I think its more of a curiosity thing. But wouldn't you like to know how many people you were competing with to cash in on early rentals?

I guess for some ignorance is bliss...

and if you actually read what I said I am in no way insulting the bomb squad guys. They are awesome and have always been good to me on the phone or email. If anything im in their corner saying give them more information to better serve their customers! Whenever I have questions they cannot answer I know it pains them to say it.

Sure, it would be interesting to know. But Red never said how many Red Ones were ever shipped. Why would they ever say how many Epics...?

My estimate is 5,000 Stage 2 Epic-X reservations.
