Hi,

I scoured a bunch of threads but I could not find a definitive answer (if there is one) to this.

How long is the upgrade $5000 accessories credit going to last for? If I bought a new Dragon in say… early June, would the accessories credit still be good 1 year from now at June 2016? Can Red make me a guarantee that if I bought a Dragon now, that when I am ready to upgrade 1 year from now I can still get the $5K credit?

The reason I ask is, financially, it would probably take me about 1 year from date of purchase to come up with the $21,500 needed to upgrade as that’s a lot of cash.

It’s obviously kind of a bad time to buy a new Dragon from Red, but I figured the blow is slightly softened with the $5K accessories credit since the Base, Expander, Side Kick and Lemo Adapter are pretty much needed and quite pricey.

So if Red can guarantee that the $5K accessories credit will be good 1 year from now, I’d probably do buy a new Dragon now, but I would appreciate a definitive answer.

if they don't make that promise i would go straight to weapon and just save....or look at other competitors...if your whole business plan is dependent upon their having this deal for a while it sounds risky unless they clearly state when it ends...also dragons have an upgrade plan, you don't need a weapon unless you need it for its features

Going straight to Weapon is attractive, however, for non-upgraders / new customers I've been told 2016 at the earliest. Even if that's Q1, that's quite a wait. I was told by a Red Rep that Dragon took about 1 year to roll out, so if they started doing upgrades next month or so, it could be as late as May 2016 to get a new Magnesium Weapon. Hoping that's the conservative estimate of course.

Believe me, if they had Weapon Magnesium (the only one I could afford) now, I would buy it immediately.

I suppose that's one downside to such frequent upgrades, it keeps people on the fence about buying new Red cameras; and the used market people want quite a bit for used cameras (which I totally understand), so is it really worth it to save a few thousands dollars for the hassle and risks of buying used?

I don't personally think so, warranties matter

I believe in order to take advantage of the accessory credit you need to have had your dragon before NAB. If you had a Dragon before NAB, then I don't think the accessory credit has an expiration date planned yet, as it will be around for a while. (Ie, if you by a Dragon now, and you want to upgrade it in a year you will not get the credit)

More confused. So new Dragon buyers as of today will NOT get the $5K credit towards any of the cool accessories?

Looking at the Weapon FAQ, it says Weapon upgrades "Invoiced After April 12th, 2015" - Additional Accessory Credit = YES.

Based on that chart, it reads like the credit is still available for Dragon to Weapon upgrades after April 12th, including new buyers of Dragons. Am I interpreting it wrong?

Here's the link and the chart in question is towards the bottom

Everyone. The accessory credit is applied for those that upgraded to Dragon pre-NAB. It's simply applied if you are making the jump to weapon whenever you are paying your last payment to send the Dragon in.

Unless I'm reading you wrong what your saying implies that the $5k credit could be used to discount the body upgrade price instead of accessories. Red has said this is not the case, and Brent specifically said you cannot use it for the body upgrade, just accessories. Now, are you saying if I upgraded to weapin and bought no accessories it would automatically be deducted anyway?

So this is straight from the horses mouth - Brent @ Red exchanged a few PMs with me. He said:

"If you buy a SCARLET/EPIC DRAGON (meaning now) and then upgrade to WEAPON, you will get the $5000 accessory credit, yes. Granted, as we always say, all good things come to an end. But as of now, there is not a deadline for that."

I wish there was a concrete deadline for the $5K credit as it allows me to plan things better. Basically, if I buy a new Red now, I can't afford to upgrade at least until early next year due to money.

If I knew I would be good until early next year on the $5K credit, it would give me more confidence to buy sooner as the $5K credit is pretty awesome.
