To be clear, this does not include the battery module.

2nd question - Are the batteries in the grip the same as the ones that snap onto the external module?

If not, please explain the runtimes between the battery in grip vs a battery in module. thanks.

They run for 20 million minutes!

The product aint out so the public don't know.

The battery will last for 4 hours

I'd be interested to know where you came up with that figure.Everything I heard at the RED Day in Las Vegas indicates regular batteries in the range of 1.5 to 2 hours and XL batteries around 2 - 2.5. These are rough figures from memory but I don't recall hearing anything near 4 hours.

Thanks Terry. I assumed someone asked RED at NAB - since they were showing off the hand held unit. I watched a bunch of RED's video demos online but no-one asked the obvious question.

Otherwise, we have to buy the battery module for longer run times. However, 90mins sounds good to me, I'll just buy 3-4 small batteries.

Well, we can confirm for sure that the battery in the grip is indeed the smaller of the external style batteries. Ill have to dig it up, but there is a picture of the front flap of the side module open, revealing the REDVOLT battery inside.

EDIT:

as you can see, the standard redvolt fits

Sorry Terry, it was a joke. There is no way anyone could know what the battery life would be on the production models until they make a finished one. I guess it would be pretty close to the prototype battery life though.
