Is there any way to remotely control the start/stop of a Scarlet-X Camera, via cable or cordless, without a RedMote ??

Is there something out there less expensive if all we want to do is start and stop it?

Thanks.

when you think what the above options will cost and what you get for $500 with a RedMote... I don't think it compares really. Surely a RedMote is the sensible option..

wired option is MadlyFins Promote, $200 bucks

http://www.madlyfins.com/product.php?id_product=22

PLC also makes this range extender, not what you were asking about - but for increased range to start/stop with redmote it supposedly works great.

http://www.plcelectronicsolutions.com/products/Range-Extender-for-Red-Epic(tm)-.html

The problem with this option is the other two accessories that have to go with it to make it work. In the end, it will cost around $800.oo. Ridiculous!!

I just bought a used RedMote for $400.oo Happy with that.

Thanks to everyone.

sure it is, and redmote is a must have accessory, but the thread is "start/stop without redmote", and mostly shooting with steadicam, i really want to put that wireless Origo on my gimbal.
so as always - depends on application.

Sorry, Paramon... I read the OP's question as "is it possible to start or stop the Scarlet for less money with another accessory?" And i would say'No' as it's already cheap at $500 or cheaper still if you buy second hand.

Now answering YOUR question of putting it on a steadicam - again, why NOT redmote? either your 2nd AC holds the Redmote and triggers it or you just hold it in your other (non-operating) hand and trigger it yourself. Better still, mount the Redmote on the back of the camera and just press Record... But then isn't that what Redmote is for??

Why not the redmote?

Because it is he worst and most unreliable Red Accesory that they make.

I use the madlyfins remote and it works 100% every time.

"Madlyfins"? Never heard of it.

Would you be kind enough to give me the website where they are for sale?

Thanks,

George

The madlyfins iceberg allows you to start/stop either Epic or Scarlet using BNC, Lanc, or LEMO 4-pin. I ended up getting it and found a couple older origos for pretty cheap. They work perfectly.

I would love to recco the new origos from Viewfactor, but as far as electronics are concerned VF is possibly the most unreliable company I've seen with regard to shipping and/or delivering on their promises. Basically, believe it when things are actually shipping...and no sooner.
