  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

How do you interpreted the false color charts ?

I understand the basic of the false color work, but i plan to put this chart on the LCD for the help of the DOP, but would like to know what exactly what to tell for each colors (IRE and stop meaning for each colors).

Thanks

Looks like your missing a vital bit of info from your jpeg of the false colour scale (i.e. the IRE values). Try this one:

Hi Dave,
where did you get those IRE values? They're not found in the operations manual (which is where I found the chart that Etienne shows). I was doing some testing, and I find that the IRE are different depending on whether you're monitoring in REDSpace or RAW. Have you found this to be the case also?

shouldn't they be different based on how you are monitoring? otherwise whats the point for not always viewing RAW? REDSpace reserves some high/low for you as a stop-gap so it only makes sense your false color would reflect that. no?

Yes, of course, but part of my point (which I guess I didn't express clearly) was that this should be noted on the scale that was given...was it REDSpace, RAW, REC709?

It was for REC 709
