  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

I'm new to the non-proxy setup and just loaded up Cineform. The clips render out as MOS though. How do I export or convert the audio from the takes off of the original R3D for both Cineform and other workflows.

I'm currently attempting to edit the express sized Cineform files within Vegas, but only video is showing up.

I found a Mac and dropped the files into redrushes and batched to quicktime for sync later. Basically going to have Cineform express for video and QT for audio (from the original R3D). Curious how well the express files will look when rendered straight to DVD as is.

Express default to 1024x512 or 1024x540 (automatic vertical depending on you source resolution) and are encoded as 4:2:2. SD DVD is 720x480 4:2:0, so the Express files have some oversampling over your DVD target so that will be reasonable. However, for a high quality DVD master I would at decode the source R3D to 2K, not 1K as the default used when creating Express files.

In you have a access to a friend's intel Mac, this may get you going -

1) With RedRushes on the Mac batch a bunch of .R3Ds into ProRes files - the resolution is irrelevant as we only want these files for their audio (choose a low output res. to save render time).
2) Switch to your PC and Cineform batch the same .R3Ds into the Cineform flavour of your choice (RAW, 444, 422 or Express - it's up to you).
3) Set-up a Premiere Cineform project in the mastering resolution you desire
4) Import and drop the ProRes files on your Premiere Pro timeline (only works with Premiere CS3, not CS2 or earlier) - if you've recorded 4 channels of audio, 4 audio tracks should show content
4) Unlink the ProRes video from their audio tracks and delete the video portions, thereby making the ProRes audio clips 'orphans'
5) Select all the orphaned audio clips and go to Clip / Audio Options / Render and Replace
6) Premiere will now make these clips .wav files
7) Drop your Cineform files on a video track over their corresponding audio clips
8) Select all the clips on the timeline, right-click and slect "Link"
9) The Cineform files are now married to their corresponding .wav files and you can move and intercut them with ease

I know a 9-step process isn't ideal but it's a workaround for now.

Cant you just pull the audio from the quick time proxies via your app and delete the video files?
