  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

How do you define when need to shutdown camera with V mount battery? Auto shutdown?

Guys, Could you tell me please
If we use Redvolte wee see the rest of power in persentage, 20%, 10% and we know when we need to shut down camera, and we can manage auto shut down
but when we use V moun battery we see only voltage, 12V, 11,9V. And it is need to alway control this to shutdown camera in time.
But may be is it possible to make auto shutdown with low voltage of battery? In this case we don't need always control the level of the battery.

Thank you in advance

You can change so that it shows the time left on the battery, but generally if the battery goes under 12V you need to change asap. On top of that, the V-lock battery should have a led indicator showing if it's charged or not, if it's at two or one bar, change it.

What kind of V-lock do you use? I use redvolts + red bricks (v-lock) at the same time (redvolt in side handle:dsmc1). The camera draws power from v-lock, and when that dies it automatically switches to redvolt. Without powering down I can change the Brick for a fresh one.
I think this only works when using original red bricks, but i am not sure.

Yes, you are right, not every bricks show percentages of power, for example Globalmediapro batery show only voltage, and we see when voltage is les then 12v, for example 11,9v we need to shutdown camera and change battery, but often you are busy and can easly muss this moment. It would be very useful to manage that when voltage goes down to 11,9v camera shotdown automatically. Is it possible?

When using original red bricks / red volts my epic dragon shuts down automatically when power runs out. It gives me a message first, so that i can interfer, but when i do not, it starts a countdown (20 sec down) and shuts down.

What camera? According to the operation guide for dscm1 (epic/scarlet) the camera will shut down auto, atically when the powerlevel drops to 11,5 volts. My advice: test it!

With Epic W, I get a warning when the batt is about to die. If I don't do anything, it's shutting down automatically. It does a count down to 0, then it shuts down.

Epic is not automatically shutdown when voltage is 11,5,v but maybe is it possible to set this kind of settings?

I am not sure you can do this when using third-party batteries. Check the power operation guide! You will find it on red.com.

Wow I would love for mine to do the same.. did you turn on some setting for that? Or do you use red bricks?

I love Red cameras, but this is the only thing I dislike about the system. On my Sony, you can set it up so it flashes a Battery Icon when it hits a certain voltage... say 12volts. It's really hard to miss since an icon is blinking continuously (Talking Dumb batteries here that only show voltage).

Battery / voltage warning seems easy to program into the firmware. The camera has just shut off more times than I care to admit from the battery dying. I have to constantly be hyper vigilant about battery life and I'd rather have my mind on other things.
