I installed the new redcode and I am editing a project in FCP. Selected clips that play fine in the viewer when dragged into the timeline are showing up black or a green screen. I think the solution will be to downgrade to a previous version of Redcode. I downloaded the current version from Reds support site and installed but noticed the redcode section in still in the preferences pane so I think I am still using the new redcode.

Can someone please explain the downgrade process?

You need to remove it from the library>QT folder and then reinstall the old one.
