If I want to mount a RedTouch 5.0" LCD Monitor, a Red EVF, "and" a Red Top Handle, all on top of the Scarlet at the same time, what is the best way to go about it? Is there some kind of top plate with the screw holes that will allow this?

And, is there a way to connect both cables from the monitor AND the EVF to the camera "at the same time" ? Does it require a splitter ?

The RedTouch Monitor has it's own bracket and take two screws. And, I use our Red EVF on an articulating arm that requires only one 1/4" screw hole. The Top Handle requires two screw holes.

I'm just looking for the best way to mount all those accessories on the camera at the same time.

** I do not want one of those cages or huge top plates. I just want a devise that will serve the purpose, but be as small as possible.

Any advise, recommendations, or help, is appreciated. Models, brands, and websites of accessories would be nice too.

Thanks.

Thanks to everyone, for all your help.

But, what I've decided to do, is NOT get the RedTouch LCD Monitor, but use the 3rd party monitor I already have for framing, and our Red EVF for focusing and seeing the camera settings. The other options are just too costly. As long as (I hope) I can see in both devises at the same time WITHOUT having to constantly change camera settings, since the monitor is SDI. I hope that works. It did for our Red-One.

Thanks again.

The back of the Scralet has an HDMI output.. i'm guessing your Monitor can be connected to that.. On RED site there cables with an LCD/EVF end and the other with loose wiring... But You'd have to find someone who can configure how to wire the other end as an HDMI output... I believe that could allow you that freedom.

there are various options for top-plates and handles with all the mounting options you need...
it's basically just a question of which direction or brand you want to go...

for 2 RED options (e.g. RED LCD plus RED EVF or 2 RED LCD's for additional focus pulling 2nd AC) you'll need either the +1 module from RED or the PRO-I/O module from RED! For 3rd parties you can always use HDMI or SDI splitters or you can use just pass-thru options if available on the units you use...

Oh, Peter, you've got to be kidding? There HAS to be another option than shelling out that kind of money just so that we can use both the RedTouch Monitor "and" the Red EVF at the same time. There just has to be. Spending that kind of money for something like that is just plain ridiculous.

I mean, $1,250.oo for a "splitter"? That will be the day I do that. :(

Thanks Kerson,

But, the monitor has a Lemo connector, not an HDMI style plug.

No...

But that's why you've got the HDMI output as a "consumer/cheap" output option and the SDI output as a "professional" output option...
There are enough 3rd parties options out there (for both EVF and TFT - just not touchTFT) - ranging from (china-plastic-)cheap to (rock-solid-)professional... It should totally be enough stuff out there to find the sweet spot just for your user-scenario and/or budget situation.

In the meantime you can always unplug the cable and just switch between EVF and touchTFT ;)

Thanks again for all your help Peter.

But, I must be missing something here. Both the RedTouch Monitor and the Red EVF have LEMO connector plugs. What good are HDMI or SDI outputs going to do me?

And, what 3rd party options? Sorry, but I am a little confused about this.

Up until now, we have been using two Red-Ones and have had no problems with monitor and EVF hook ups. We are in the process of getting our first Scarlet, so what it is and is not capable of, I don't know YET. That's why I'm asking these questions.

Plugging and unplugging the cable is not an option. One of us has to be able to view the monitor, while the other is looking through the EVF.

Thanks again.

The RED ONE was much bigger - and thus had space for like miniXLR, 2x RED monitoring and so on...
So in a certain way going "small" meant a step down from the RED ONE (especially on audio and a bit on monitoring), of corse you gain a lot on other aspects -> resolution, processing power, weight, modularity, quicker mount-changing and so on...

HDMI and SDI outputs are fully functional video outputs for full progressive HD output!
You can use any accessory that is enabled to read out these signals (720P and 1080P - the "progressive" part is important here!).
The only functionality lacking from the lemo-connectors is the touch-interface, control-button throughput and the "secure" locking-mechanism with HDMI (as it's still a consumer standard basically). But just for video (e.g. focus-pulling monitor, EVF) you can use about every accessory working on these outputs.

OK, I give up.

I'm not going to bug you for the rest of time, but I "still" do not see how I can utilize HDMI or SDI outputs with a RedTouch Monitor "&" a Red EVF on the Scarlet.

Sorry, I guess I'm just dense. I'm sure once I get the camera in my hands, I'll be able to figure it out.

Thanks again for all your kindness, tolerance, and help.

George, you won´t be able to connect both, the EVF and the TouchScreen without adding a module like stated before. There is only one connector on the DSMC bodies.
You will be able to use a third party display which can be connected via HDMI or SDI and simultanously monitor your image with either the EVF or the TouchScreen. HTH.
Cheers, Ulf

Hi Geroge,

This issue is the reason I came up with the Carbonite Scope. Without spending alot of money, there's no great way of connecting the LCD and EVF at the same time. The Carbonite Scope allows for the best of both worlds

you just can't (without the modules I told you)...

and don't mind bugging me - that's what we ppl lurking around in this forum in our free (and sometimes payed :p) time are here fore at least =)

as for your scenario; why not buying a 3rd party EVF ? There are lots of really nice and nifty 3rd party options out there...
did you sell the RED ONE or are you keeping it ?

George - it's the way that both Epic and Scarlet work.

You can't have two 'Red' devices attached at the same time (ie a Bomb EVF and a touchscreen) as there is only one Red style port. You need to get a +1 adapter, Pro I/O or Meizer to add the extra port.

The Scarlet/Epic have been like this since day one, the +1 has only been available for a few months and the Pro I/O was sometime last year. So a second Red style monitor port is only a recent 'extra' that you have to pay for.

If you want to run touch and Red EVF together, these are the only options.

Edit - LOL - looks like a few people beat me to the answer... George, hope this helped.

Thanks Ulf,

That's what I needed to know, and was afraid of.

We don't want to use a different monitor, so is there a third party EVF that will work?

Thanks,

George

Hello George,

Since you're not interested in a Top plate I'll try to help you map out a way to mount your devices with out it. However, it will be clunky.

If you take your swat rail and mount it to the screws on your Scarlet, you can then mount the Touch LCD on the rossette in the front of the top handle.
Then there are 1/4" holes in the side of the handle you can put your arm in there and attach your EVF to that.

However, as stated before, if you want to use the BOMB EVF and the Touch LCD you will need to get the +1 adapter. Its not really a splitter as you described it before, it takes input from the the touch screen and provides power as well, all though one port. However, it does utilize your HDMI port for the video aspect. If you want to use your HDMi port for a "video village" type set up, and still want the two RED devices you will need to grab a PRO-IO.

If you choose against the +1 or PRO-IO options, you can sell your BOMB EVF, and pick up a Z-Finder and still have some money left over. The Z-Finder utilizes your HDMI port so you will be able to use it and the Touch LCD at the same time. Additionally, you'll be able to do the same thing with the display if you have a side handle. You can swap out the Touch LCD for a professional HDMI or SDI based monitor and use that as your display and continue to use your BOMB. However to do that you'll need a side handle to control the camera (or a RedMote)

We have two Red-Ones, and we are selling the "B" camera to help pay for the Scarlet.

What 3rd party EVFs would work? I was not aware of any. Would you mind giving me a few brands and models, and maybe a website?

Thanks again, and again.

George

Won't work, because we need to use BOTH at the same time.

Thanks anyway.

can you elaborate a bit more in detail what exactly you're doing and in which fashion?
The Cabonite Scope can be "flipped up" pretty fast/easily e.g.

As for additional control; for just changing settings a second person can always do that via RedMote as long as it's not stuff like focus-pulling but rather rec/stop, changing various settings, playback... using both the exact same time is something for tripod-use only if you ask me - sure possible on shoulder too but a bit awkward...
