Okay. . . I thought I'd report that I got my rolling flames and they were easier to do than I had imagined.
We set the camera at 2K and 100fps, and then just fired a can of brake cleaner straight at the camera and through a propane torch for ignition. We stopped down to increase depth-of-field (f15ish) and used a 50mm lens.
End result: And they look absolutely amazing! The flames came to within a foot of the lens, but were gone too quickly for there to be a danger due to heat.
All-in-all, this was an unqualified success and I highly recommend this technique for anyone looking for such shots in the future. But don't blame me if you burn down your house.
