Someone mentioned making one of these using an S-Video Cable - I have a shoot coming up where I'd like to have a look at this.

I understand the Viewfactor boys are making one but haven't got the lead time - therefore am looking at making it up myself at least temporarily.

Any suggestions? Thx.

I've heard of that too, but I made mine by just purchasing the connectors listed in the manual from Mouser and building them from there.

Sounds a bit dangerous to me. The circuit in the camera is 3.3 volt logic, if you short pin 4 (+12V) to pin 3 (Tally out) or worse yet, to pin 2 (gate in) you will probably destroy the circuit, so I advise caution. The pin spacing is pretty close.

I know of a company making a trigger for the RED that breaks out into XLR audio so you can use them as extension cables, no expensive lemo cable to buy, which works fine for ramp or record.

Should be out soon, when they finish I'll let everyone know.

If you're needing a shot right away all you need to do is short pins 1 and 2... which are the upper left and lower left pins.

Take the camera to any electronics parts place and you can buy a couple pins that will fit. You could simply short them with another wire or pin to trigger an event.

Or you could solder a pushbutton to them and add a grippable handle by using a little moldable putty style epoxy from the hardware store around the pins. That would make it easy to plug in and out as well as prevent inadvertent shorts. Straight pins from the fabric store would work too.

Good Luck however you proceed.

Where is this manual from Mouser?? I've been looking everywhere for the connectors with no luck. I used an S-vid cable but I'd really like a better connection.
