  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

How could they tell you installed a Birger?

RED doesn't say that you void the warranty if you choose to disassemble and then reassemble your own mount, such as if you wish to check the torque on the bolts or adjust centering.

Can someone from RED confirm that performing this task (assuring the mount-bolts are adequately fastened) is okay and will not void the warranty? I know of at least two cameras where the mount has been loose after the upgrade program and I have been thinking about checking my own camera to make sure (but haven't because I've been afraid to for that exact reason).

That would be void if you go past the first ring and remove.

Thanks again Mitch... :)

Could someone confirm whether you're still eligible for stage 3 trade-in (turn in your R1 and get 17k discount towards purchase of Epic) if you had previously installed the Birger mount (installed during the time it was still "approved")?

Thanks so much!

As long as you followed the procedures, signed the waiver and got approved by Birger to install your mount and did so before the approval was revoked you're fine as far as we know at this point.

RED's been very considerate of the Birger customers position and RED's customer service overall has always been great in my experiences dealing with them. :-)

Thanks for the clearing that up, Jarred. Please don't give Mitch at hard time. I'm sure he meant well :hand:

Heh heh don't worry we love Mitch.. We have had quite some history with him over the last couple years and you are right.. he always means well.

Good to feel the love.

Just came back for a visit... Wow this thread is still going huh?

Jarred said I was RIGHT about something... That's new... :)

It's time to move on guys.. We gotta chalk it up as one of those things we wish might have gone a little differently, but didn't.

Edit: Said Erik was fine with the current situation.. Boy did I read THAT wrong! As for RED, I have no idea... So I need to stop Ass uming.

I think it's time we breath in, hold it, breath out, and start to discuss other things.

This is just an opinon of course. I'm not saying people can't talk about it.. I AM saying it's not going to do any practical good.. It might make you feel a little better, but it could cause new problems in the process.

Like Jarred getting pissy and putting kinks in our replacement cables..... :biggrin5:

I'm not sure what that has to do with anything.. But.. I have one on my camera as we speak. I don't think my lying to Jarred at this point, saying I never installed one will hold water since there's a VIDEO of me doing it!!!

Easy or not. It's done. I'm sorry. I wish it were different, but it's not and at this point it's like bitching about the weather.. Say what you want it's not going to change.

I will say this one thing in the hopes of helping out:

If you are in a situation, like this one, or any other, and you feel you need "special treatment" the WORST possible way to get it is to air your request or complaint on a public forum. Even EMAIL is not a good idea.

Pick up the phone, and CALL RED. Ask to speak to some one that will hear you and respond in person.

I'm NOT saying it will always work, but I am saying it will work better than "electronic" forms of communication. I know it's wierd hearing this from me.. But REDUser was my very first forum, and it's taken me a while to learn the advantages and pitfalls of this form of communication.

Mainly I have had to learn to bite my fucking tounge on more than one occasion. I am beginning to get the hang of it.. My worst blow up was with Mark at Offhollywood.. I think that's past but it bothers me to this day.

:001_rolleyes:

Robert,

Why are you "discussing" it on here, we can't give you a refund, Red's not going to change their mind (After all I am assuming you called and spoke to them and they refused to help...correct?) Don't you think it's time to pick up the phone and call Erik?

EDIT: Robert deleted a lot his post, so I felt a lot of mine was not longer relevant.

Call these guys Robert.. They will help if able. But they don't do much off forum posts.

Just trying to help

What do you expect anyone to do for you on here? When you are running a serious business you do not make "public" statements without care consultation. This does not apply as much in a private setting.

Furthermore, from what I understand, if you bought the mount BEFORE Jarred's deadline then you are fine.

If you are not fine, then you need to SPEAK with someone, not write to them in front of 800 other people.

Just trying to help

Jay

I have no expectations of anyone doing anything about this, but as you mentioned "discussing something else" I wanted to "discuss" this topic.

What is the problem with that? I think that many others may be wondering what the ramifications are concerning this topic, and what to do about it.

BTW, I'm not writing to any specific person in front of 800 people. I'm expressing my thoughts to all who may be interested in them, particularly those who purchased a Birger mount.

If I had a problem with a car dealer and wanted to discuss it with others on a public forum would you object to that?

Frist I do not object to anything you are saying.. If you wanna write about it, that's cool write about it. But the last sentence of your post said you wanted to "Discuss getting a refund from Birger" so I assumed you wanted one.. I was offering help as to the best way to either get help from RED, or a refund from Birger since I know writing on here will accomplish neither one.

But if it makes you feel better writing about it on here.. Knock yourself out.

Have a good one.

Actually i like how the situation evolved: Red producing and supporting their electronic mount Canon compatible. I just hope it will be ready from day one with a remote focus solution that will not devour batteries.
For sure I'm hurting that i spent money and a lot of time on a product that is now, finally, working well and will be terminated soon. But, hey, Jay's right here, time to move on.
Tinari out.

Jay, Paolo..

you are both right.

Yes, let hope that the Canon-compatible mount from RED will ship when Epic does.

I'd say... i know who is not going to be getting any favors from us anytime soon :)

Im so tired of the "gimme gimme gimme boo hoo" crap. It's like sitting in a room with a bunch of 2 year olds.

hahaha, so true..
reminds me of what America is turning into...
Let daddy take care of all your wants... UGGG

keep doing what you doing! no complaints here..

Well, let's say you did buy a Birger mount (about 3K) and now can't use it nor sell it. Your Red Cam, at 20K, is still an amazing deal. You can always use Zeiss Nikons for a cheapie route. What other cam like this could you get for 20K (let's say about 25K with batteries, some media, and a cheepie LCD). It's not like you can shoot an actual fiction movie with a Varicam or an EX-line Sony.

Let's say, for the sake of argument, that Red's position on Birger is absolute crap (I'm not saying it is, it's just a hypothetical) - They're still offering amazing value.

I was just curious to hear more details, as we had made up a budget for Red+Birger+L glass, and now must resort to other plans, as we cannot afford Red Pro Primes (it's a Steadicam upgrade question along with a raw cost question). But, that said, there is still no alternative to Red that is even 10% reasonable or comparable. There is no reason to whine here.
