Is there a way to Batch Process (75 clips) the date in the date Metadata field? I had someone hand me a mag with the date metadata incorrectly named...they have Januaary 1, 2000, but it was shot February 18, 2014.

I have no idea how to to this, or even if it's possible.

Thanks....

As far as I know you cannot change any meta data on Red clips, I know you cannot change timecode for sure. You can do it on mov files but I guess that doesn't help you.
But yes it would be nice to be able to change the meta data.

Here's a couple of Mac tools we found and tested that will do this task. Please only attempt this modification on copies of original files.

First, to change the "File Created/Modified" date, there's A Better Finder Attributes. http://www.publicspace.net/ABetterFinderAttributes/index.html This program will alter the created and modified dates of a whole folder of files with a drag and drop interface. Set the desired date, select "Action>Set creation and modification dates" and check "Include Subfolders and their contents". The changes will be reflected in both OSX Finder as well as other Apps that read this data such as FCPX.

However, the creation date is also found within the actual R3D which can be seen in the Metadata within REDCINE-X. To modify this, I found UltraEdit which will batch process R3D files with its "Find and Replace" operation. In Johnny's example his creation date was set as January 1, 2000, which is written within the R3D as 20000101. To modify this within UltraEdit, choose "Search>Replace in Files" and change 20000101 to 20140218 and be sure and check the box to include subdirectories. http://www.ultraedit.com/products/mac-text-editor.html

As far as I can tell those two steps will completely change the date of creation on an entire folder of R3Ds. Hope it helps :)

Wow, that's a very powerful -- albeit very scary -- binary text editor. I would be very wary about making sure you have the exact number of digits for mass replacements like this, because this could be catastrophic.
