  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

How big can a project be?

Just did an intermediate in Crimson on a 20 minutes project containing 350 clips.

I import the clips into RedCine. I then try to open the XML - but the open menu looks weird and I can´t select files.

I tried to make a smaller project (190 clips) and then it worked as it should.

I guess RedCine has some limitations regarding how big a project can be? Can anyone tell me more about this?

RedCine is weird.

It seems to not like importing large groups of clips at once. Once you go over 192 it often behaves in a very funny way.

Interestingly, if you import in small chunks (eg 100 clips or so each time) you can 400+ clips in. That is what I am doing with my current project.

But it doesn't help for Crimson because you have to import everything at once.

Red team, how can we help you debug this?

If someone feels like shooting 300 really short clips and importing them at all once we cold see if it's a "number of clips" problem or a "total duration" problem...

Otherwise it's difficult for us to help Red debug this without sending them a drive full of footage.

Actually... I have a drive full of footage that doesn't import properly. Anyone from Red wanna borrow it and try? I'm in LA...

Then I guess the best workaround is to render my project to DPX using Crimson/Redline. That´s annoying, I prefere the visual control I have in RedCine.

i've had the best results personally going flat-ish/conservative with very minor changes out of redcine, and doing the major color work in real grading software.

I guess thats probably the best solution. Since this is a 90 minutes feature with lots of clips I have to split this into approximately nine or ten different color projects.
