  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

How about 4K 240FPS?

Very few camera companies build their own sensors and there are just a few specialized companies that can build them. Without doubt Red and other camera companies are intimately involved in designing the parameters required for their sensor.
I bet Red has or is considering designing and selling a high speed camera. I would be thrilled if they could build a machine that could run 300 fps before windowing. Shooting past 500fps is good for explosions and water but frankly not much else as human activity becomes a statue. Even when shooting on a Phantom we often dial the speed down.

Where did you hear that?

I just assumed since they were and are shipping so many so quickly, more than Dragon sensors and that the color science and gamma haven't been tamed as of yet. Makes sense that they didn't build a bigger sensor production facility in a few months and start shipping more of them then Dragons. It's most likely a different company supplying the sensor. I'm also a big fan of the Dragon sensor and where it has arrived in terms of color and noise in the past few years.

It's quite possible that Red is working with another manufacturer to fabricate Helium sensors, but it's just as likely that Red is working with a fab partner to manufacture Dragon sensors. Semiconductor manufacturing partnerships are very common because of the extremely high cost and overhead involved in fabs, both launching them and in keeping them operational.

Red's a much smaller company than, say, Apple and even Apple doesn't make its own processors, instead having another company fabricate Apple's designs.
