I am sure this issue has been addressed here in these forums before but many rental houses have built boxes that allow one to hot swap batteries when using block batteries.
Is there a commercial version?

Peter

Abl offers a couple of models. The Switronix GP-TS-RED and GP-TS-RED2 take two RED bricks (or Switronix bricks) and allow both hot swap of power as well as passing battery status info to the camera so the percentage readout continues to appear in the viewfinder. We also sell an inexpensive and basic hotswap device from House Of Power that takes two XLR4 connectors in and has one XLR4 connector out. This way you can use a block battery or even an AC power supply as your backup when performing a battery swap. All are available at the RED Store on our website at www.abelcine.com.

We have been using one from Cramped Attic,
most of the rental houses use them, they cam make then with any accessory 12v out you want also, with an LCD showing you the battery voltage, small and light weight.

The lintequip one is nice, but it lacking some voltage protection and most importantly the ability to have a second 6pin lemo, to hotswap red vplates.

i recommend untill someone else make a better version.

Thanks Ernesto, But I can't find the item on the Cramped Attic website. I will try to email them.

You can see one of Cramped Attic's power break out boxes in this thread:

I had David make me a similar one with:
two RED Lemo ins (for hot swap)
One Red Lemo out (to camera)
Accessory outs: 4Pin, D-tap, 4 pin Hirose, RS3 and a powered BNC for a gooseneck lamp.
I put an Element Technica v-dock quick release so it can mount anywhere on a rod with a speedy clamp.

Sorry I don't have pics of mine handy.

David and his team do great work, they are fast and very fairly priced. I highly recommend them.

I have two other methods of hot swapping with my package, but the Cramped Attic box almost always seems to end up on the camera. It's a very nice solution.

Important to realize that Cramped Attic (i.e. David) can customize. Tell him your needs and he'll provide solutions. Superb.
