  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Hot off the presses...

It seems like there's a lot of hardware changes coming in at the same time, the card reader and the audio boards. Wouldn't it make more sense just to swap out the card readers at the same time as the audio boards? Also, seems like swapping out the CF readers without requiring the 16GB card purchase might be a little more efficient in getting everyone up to the same level.

A question for any who have upgraded.

Is their any distinguishing marks on the new CF modules that allow you to identify them as different from the old ones?

I ask this because we received two CF Modules today but being the pedantic types we giving them once over before fitting them and they look identical to the existing ones down to part numbers on the board.

Hi RedIreland.

You've received two modules already ?! I take it that is for your two first cameras, and that you received your 16GB cards as well, right. ? I'm surprised as I haven't heard much talk about the 16GB cards for a while. I'm waiting for my own and haven't heard a thing.

Edit : Come to think about, I thought Red was delivering all items in order of camera devlivery date (except for the pre-orders of the Red 18-85mm). I've got two 16GB cards on order, but haven't heard a thing about availability.

Cheers,
Damien

Hello Earthling. I think in a round about way we are asking the same question...

We have ordered 16gig cards but they are not in stock, I pressume the modules are for our first two bodies. We have received modules but I cannot ascertain if they are upgrades or just normal ones so I am trying to find out. I have changed a module months ago as a crew damaged one so I am familiar with the part and process.

If anyones knows of any identifying differences I would appreciate it.

No one has received the CF reader/writer modules that are 16 GB card-friendly. Those will ship with the 16 GB CF CARDS. And before you ask, those will start shipping very soon. For reals, this time :)

I'm curious as to why you have received CF modules if you already have modules installed on your camera? Or were you ordering spare modules, just in case of failure?

Hi, Brent,

I'm suffering an attack of candor; that's my disclaimer.

What does, "very soon," mean? Days? This means less than 30 to me. Weeks? Surely this is less than four. Months? If it's months, I personally feel it's outside the realm of, "very soon."

And, what does, "starts shipping," mean? Will there be enough updated modules to supply everyone in the queue, or are we to expect lengthy waiting?

I think these are fair questions.

Good shooting and best regards,

Leo

I am even more curious (or maybe just confused) than you!!

We have ordered 16gig cards so thought that maybe these were sent out for that as we hadn't ordered any spares.

Thanks for clearing it up Brent. Now we have them and a long term job starting we will probably keep them as we can see they have been paid for off the invoice.

All strange but ends up working out for us.

Advantage Mac..?

Also, anything to know about CF Readers? Will there be any particular advantages to using specific readers for the 16GB cards, or even ones that will work with the 8GB cards but not the 16GB?

Sorry if this was covered somewhere already.

The 16 GB card-friendly CF reader/writers will indeed be compatible with both 8 GB and 16 GB cards. Your camera will be upgraded to the new CF reader/writer within the RED ONE Upgrade Program or a new CF reader/writer will be sent to you with you first 16 GB CF CARDS order - whichever comes first.

We should start shipping out initial 16 GB CF CARD orders as early as next week. One very important note, you WILL need to be running Build 17 for 16 GB CF CARD support. Yes, right now Build 17 is in beta. But it is the build with that support. So, if you do not feel comfortable running a beta firmware, you will have to wait until Build 17 is release build before using the 16 GB CF CARDS.

Expect an announcement from me or Jarred "soon" (could not resist) that they are officially shipping :)

Hey Brent, I think what Casey meant was the CF Reader that you use to input the card content on your computer, aka the SanDisk or Lexar one, not the RED CF module. Unless I'm mistaken...

Ah, understand now. I am not aware of any differences on the CF card-to-computer readers, no. I know we recommend the most the Lexar Professional UDMA FireWire® 800 Reader and I know we have used it with both 8 GB and 16 GB CF CARDS....

Will the Lexar Pro Firewire 6pin 600 CF card reader work with the cards?, i accidentally got it today thought i had brought the 800 but hey . . . Doh, otherwise i'll try and get my money back or ebay.

Andrew.

Okay. Thanks Brent. Ive done a test with a full 8gb Card its takes 16min to transfer over using this one. Do you know how long the 800 does it in?

EDIT*** Ive just done a test with USB2 and its 8min for a full card. Yeah its going back.

Andrew.
