  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Hot off the presses...

Great news on the CF module replacement for the new card. Thanks guys.

I also paid for and received a "back up" CF module.

Will RED send me a replacement for this as well?

absolutely, we will have an RMA setup for all first generation cards out there bought separate from the camera.

Not a dumb question at all, I've been wondering that as well.

It goes back to CD-ROM I believe - where 1x is 150KB/s (or KiB if we're being all IEC about it). I believe basically a rounded datarate of CD audio at '1x' (actually about 172KB/s). So at 1x it would take roughly 70 minutes to burn 70 minutes (or 650MB) of audio to a CD.

DVD has a different 1x - it's 1.3MB/s - Around 10Mb/s which would be about the top rate for DVD-Video with AC3 audio.

KB vs KiB if you're interested is all thanks to hard drive manufacturers who got Kilo, Mega and Giga redefined to be 10-based, so 1000 for Kilo, etc. As a result the technical IEC definition for the base-2 numbers is now different. So a Kilobyte is 1000 bytes, while a Kibibyte is 1024 bytes. It's confusing and a giant pain in the ass.

Can we maybe keep the old module? As a backup? I always wondered what I would to if somebody would brake a pin on set. Then I could continue with my 8 gb cards. Emergency-wise.

Great idea. Please let us keep them!

i can´t follow -

when i get the new one - i have to sent back the old one?
yes?

in this case i would prefer to buy it too (the old one or the new one, as you want :) )

Why would you want to keep the old one when we will swap to the current gen for you? :)

maybe as a backup.

but i still don´t know - is the old one to be sent back or not?

As a backup, a last resort, in case the new one breaks. We could still use our 8 GB cards with the old one.

Ah, I thought you guys meant keep an old gen one instead of sending it in. You mean get a new one without sending in the old. No, we have to ask for the old back so there is no confusion in the field what cards are supported by what cameras....

what will be the whole process?

ordering 16GB, and i will receive the card(s) and the new module.

how long do we have time to send the old one back to you?
will it be with using red fedex number?

i just make a plan because i know how difficult it could be sometime to ship products back to USA (hello custom memphis - can you hear me - remember me!??? :angry03: :) :) hahaha)

We are finalizing the details of the CF module v2.0 program as we speak.

Fredrik, quantities should not be an issue so everyone should be taken care of in a timely fashion.

We hear you on Customs concerns. We will try to make it work smoothly for everyone...

Yes, you will get your 16 GB cards with your v2.0 writer THEN you can send back the old gen writers via RMA...
