  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

hmm. backordered

In response to being asked when Stage 4 customers could expect an Epic, Jim answered this on Jan 17th.

Sorry to correct you Peter, re-read the thread you quoted. 'End of summer' was Jim's answer to the question 'when could a new customer pessimistically expect to receive a *Scarlet* (or EPIC-S)?'. Nothing to do with Stage 4 EPIC.

IIRC these cameras are being assembled on a different line to the EPIC-X/EPIC and there's no correlation between the two, beyond what has already been said: EPIC-X/EPIC comes first.

Sounds to me like RED are planning to ship a LOT of cameras this spring/summer... which ties in with Jim's post about them not being such an R&D outfit any more!

Don't forget you save 10k+ in accessories for that early reservation, not to mention the discount on the brain. I can't really think of any reason to complain about such an amazing deal as stage 2 offers. I have no problem waiting and getting every last day of good rates for RED ONE before Epic roles out.

It is my understanding that Epic-S is not to begin production until all Epic-X orders are complete.

Yes ... I am aware that the term "Epic-X" was used, however there is a small number of people in Stage 3.5.

Stage 3.5 represents a few hundred cameras ... are you suggesting that a company that is producing 1000+ cameras a month is suddenly going to dramatically slow down production and make Stage 3.5 wait?

I highly doubt it.

Beyond that ... Jim has said that all Red One owners will be given a chance to buy an Epic before non-owners. That would apply to Stage 3.5 owners ... and even those who purchased a cameras after the May 22nd, 2010 stage 3.5 deadline.

Mark, I understand your point of view. From our end, as soon as we announced the Stages program, we saw post after post, email after email saying "when can I sign up? I want to sign up. Can I sign up now?". As soon as we were ready, we took reservations on Stage 2.

Now, it is "it has been so long since you took my deposit on Stage 2. Why did you take it so early?"

Sometimes damned if you do, damned if you don't, you know?

I think we can all agree we want to roll out as many EPICS as fast as we can. You want them, we want to get them to you. We are not going to purposefully put in a delivery gap between one group of customers and another (for example stop delivering cameras for a few months between stage 2 and stage 3 so the stage 2 group feels they got them far enough in advance of stage 3 to be happy). No, we are going to have production quantities and are going to ship them as fast as we can.

No need to apologize, no hard feelings. We want the same thing....

BC

Thanks

Epic-X is a specially designed and customized package only for previous Red One owner as far as I know (not even talking about the price here). I doubt anyone else but Red owners can order an Epic-X. That would defeat the purpose. So who can buy Epic-X at NAB? (or am I wrong somewhere here?)

I'm not sure there is any designations for Epic other than M, X, or S. In re: the X model, I think the only thing to consider is the Stage.

Perhaps Jim's comment about those who place an order for Epic-X at NAB is referring to Stages 3 & 3.5? Not trying to be speculative or misleading, just a thought in hopes that it may calm a restless future owner of Epic-X.

No matter how long it takes to get these cameras out, and how much time I have with an Epic-X (Stage II) before others are able to get ahold of theirs, I know this much:

This camera is going to be nothing short of incredible, and the package deal Red has worked out for us R1 owners is nothing short of incredibly generous. Sure, stage II people plunked down money first, and for that there will be a reward...it just may not be up to us to decide exactly how we are rewarded. I can live with that.

Regards,
Clint

Any EPIC-X ordered at NAB...

Is there an advantage for Stage 3 camera owners to go to NAB; Will stage 3 orders taken at NAB be treated different?

Why must be ordered at "NAB"? This creates unfair situation we are living any country at anyworld? We must join to NAB for place an order? You should provide online order place for overseas user.

(Hand slapping forehead) Again, people assuming. "Must be ordered at NAB"? And now we are creating an "unfair situation" when that was never stated. Listen to what we say, not what we don't say. Again, when there is more info, we will post/email.

With all due respect, if people are continually thinking that orders need to be placed at NAB... then you (RED) need to address the issue and clear up the confusion. I have read through this thread again and niether yourself or Jim have clarified what was meant in Jim's initial statement.

If he had said, "ordered at the time of NAB" then the issue is resolved... but he said "ordered at NAB". Very different and quiet hard to understand what was meant.

I'm stage 2 so doesn't affect me at all, but i think Jim also said small quantities of "production" epic-x would ship late February and on my side of the world February is over in about 8 hours. A lot of us think that production epic-x's would go to stage 2 in order of R1 delivery date. How about a reasonably informative update? Tell us what you do know and maybe even a "Donald Rumsfeldian" "what you know that you don't know". :smile5:

Brent, I hate to rag on you guys, but there has to be a better way to communicate than these one line posts that raise more questions than answers.

In Ted's January 18th presentation, at RED Studios, he said probably later than February with March / April for mass produced. http://www.digitalcinemasociety.org/Popup.php?video=DCS_RED_Update_15fps.mov

Its around 8:07 into the video. There is an audible edit there, so who knows what was fully said. :)

Well either way, it's getting close. I'm sure that what was meant is that if you haven't placed an order yet and you do so at the time of NAB, even though you are at the back of the line, you will still get yours by the end of the summer. However, I obviously do not know what he really meant. That is just MY take on it.

You guys will still have 3-4 months on me because I don't even own a RED One. It's already March. You'll start seeing cameras roll out before you know it.

Everyone is literally putting words into the RED Teams mouth.

Guys, they obviously want us to have Epics and Scarlets, and everything else they make, and im sure they are going as fast as they can, so just let them do what they do professionally, and everyone else just needs to calm down, breathe and realize that some way or another, if you have the money, you're going to get the machine.

You might have to wait longer or shorter, no one knows, so no point in getting flustered about it. :)
