  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

HMI lights and the RED

By asking for those HMI's and Kino's, I would say he's being conservative and asking for the least he feels he can make do with. Since you own the tungsten, I assume it's not an either or.

With the HMI's and the Kino's in addition to the fresnel, you can do a lot of great stuff. Big wide shots in big spacious locations (ballrooms, etc) would still be challenging, but for most stuff this package would be OK.

We just finished a feature in which all interiors night were done with tungsten lighting. No problem whatsoever if you expose RED wise. A couple of Kinos would be nice, but it all depends of what you are shooting. The cam is very sensitive so you dont need much, you just need to know wisely where to light. Maybe if you explain a bit more what kind of situations you have so we can suggest better?

This thread was from April, Steve already shot his movie.

Well Steve, how did the HMIs work out for ya?

He he he, yes he bought hmi's and fed the crew. It was a very nice production and very well done. I had the honor of being on set for many days.

I love HMIs, but sometimes find them a little bit to "cool" with the Red. Just my personal feeling though. The end of this resurrected thread? ;-) Always fun to discuss lighting.
