I have a music video shoot tomorrow and I am debating between a HMI 1.2 versus a 2.5. I realize the 2. 5 would require i rent a generator. I am just curious to know how stronger is the 2.5 versus the 1.2 hmi. Someone told me i would be able to get the 1.2 hmi stronger if i run it without the lens.

If you go bigger you can always knock it down. Cant make it brighter. Distance and spread dictate your requirements...

The artist saw a chris brown video set in a alley and wants me to recreate it. Basically it's a powerfull blast of blue light at the end of the alley. We're shooting in los angeles

1.2 HMI PAR is a very versatile lamp. I would go with a PAR rather than a Fresnel. You can make a PAR look like a fresnel, but it is hard to make a fresnel look like a PAR. A PAR with a narrow (or no) lens will give you a lot of punch and still be able to plug it into the wall.
