  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

History...

Far from inconsequential IMO. You dragged Ted into it :)

I'll never forget your keynote at NAB 2006 before the RED booth opened - it was just perfect.

As well as myself and a few other early employees :) Thanks Frederic! It's been exiting to follow what you've been doing over these past 5.5 years

And he dragged me into it.

Not worthy of being listed, because they certainly weren't high points, but what ever happened with the stolen R1 prototype(s), and then more recently the first shipped Epic-M? In both cases, were the perpetrators ever caught/cameras ever recovered? Did these turn out to be industrial espionage, or just run-of-the-mill criminals? Both circumstances seemed remarkable.
I am curious about this as well.

There are a couple careers I think I would've enjoyed doing, recruiting is one of them! :) My wife tells me I am the worst matchmaker (because I always try) but I think she's wrong... You Graeme, Rob, Ted and Stuart were meant to work with Jim!

yeah, and I was flippantly daring Jim to sell one of his Z1Us to me at a discount...

Here's an interesting trivia question: Has Jim ever actually sold a camera since he started his collection?

My impression is that he is a pretty obsessive collector ...

I found this once in the Internet Archive Wayback Machine for red.com. It dates back to October 1, 2003. I've always liked it and I think it would look great on some "vintage" RED t-shirts or baseball jerseys.

Question for Jim: If you bought red.com in 1999 and the idea for the camera emerged in 2005, did you originally have other plans for the red.com domain and specifically for this logo? This seems like early evidence of ideas cooking in your head, but was it a camera company stewing back in 2003? "None of your business" is an acceptable answer. ;-)

I'd say making films is all about being a good matchmaker, so good job!

:cheers2:

2 more firsts for the history timeline that I think are missing -

2007 - First REDucation in LA
2011 - First REDucation outside US at Pinewood Studios

:-)

There is more to come steve I believe in that....

Totally agree Denizhan.

I guess I'm just in REDucation mood after this weeks REDucation at Pinewood! :-)

Wow its amazing to look back and remember so many key moments that don't seem so long ago. Congrats Jim and team on how far you have come in such a relatively short time.

Not relatively... a SHORT time....

I gotta say, the overlooked IMO biggest development of red isnt the Camera... its R3D. R3D compression is astounding.
