Hi there.
I was asked today about the possibility of seeing the histogram (and all the info in that bar) on a monitor with SDI output signal from the camera ...

Is there any way to get all the information that appears on the LCD of the camera to a field monitor (SDI to SDI)?

I tried with the HDMI output of the camera, passing through an HDMI to SDI converter.... no luck.

Disconnect either the EVF or the on board LCD if you want any of the information displayed on another monitor.

Then make sure your going HDMI out of the camera (which it looks like you are with the HDMI to SDI converter) and make sure PREVIEW [SYSTEM -> MONITOR] is set to DVI.

No. It won't work. Info out of the HD-SDI ports is limited to frame lines and timecode.

Hi Adrian,

In order to view the full Camera Menu on the HDMI output, you must have these things configured properly:

1) If you are using the EVF/LCD, you can only have one of the 2 plugged in. As soon as you connect both, the Menu output disappears as the internal electronics can not display all three simultaneously. Disconnect either the EVF or LCD.

2) In the Camera Menus, go to SYSTEM>MONITOR>PREVIEW. Here you will have two options. VIDEO [720p] will output a 1280x720 image and allow the Surround View, FrameGuides, etc. However, if you choose the other option MENUS [DVI], the output of the HDMI will be 1280x848, which then displays the Surround view plus the Full Camera Menus including the histograms and meters, as well as allowing you to Navigate through the Menu system.

3) Keep in mind that when using the MENUS [DVI] option, you MUST have a monitor that is compatible will being able to display that odd resolution. There are many LCD monitors that for whatever reason do not like 1280x848 and simply won't accept the signal, and many others that try to accept it and crop of the top and bottom of the image because they default to 1280x720. If you search here on REDUser for "MENUS DVI", a bunch of threads come up for this topic with people suggesting several different brands and sizes of compatible LCD monitors. Best bet is to test any monitor before a shoot.

4) One last variable is that RED recently added the "Clean Feed" option. This allows for the monitor outputs to disable any form of Surround View overlay or Menus. In the Camera Menus under SYSTEM>SETUP>PROGRAM>FEED you will have the options of MENU and CLEAN. If you would like to disable the Overlay, select CLEAN, or conversely, if you are not getting any Overlays, this is a good place to start troubleshooting, as it may have been enabled the last time the Camera was used.

Hope this helps,
