  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

This a type of hype is totally justified if it's a small dsmc2 module with audio inputs. :)

What if it was a pair of multi-function "glasses" that combined several features?
1) Adjustable transmission of light, ala photo-responsive glasses, but using nano tech
2) Can be used to view your cell phone screen, perhaps over BT5?
3) Offers AR functionality akin to what Hololens was aiming at
4) Power and processing via tether to a small device roughly the size of a smartphone
5) Adjustable prescription correction per wearer with the ability to adjust focus to the item you are looking at (eye tracker based)

One pair of spectacles to rule them all

OKAY My guess is a small action camera. Helium Sensor with a 5K chip and a built-in lens (or possible 2 swappable lenses). Bigger than a Gopro but still very small and lightweight. Not waterproof on its own but may come in a housing. Records onto Micro SD, C.Fast 2.0 or built-in internal 240GB memory (optional 480GB upgrade).

This will help keep all those action shots (or scary situations where you don't want to put your RED) possible and still match your Helium camera.
Frame rates will be limited and playback will only be possible through an external device since this bad boy will of course shoot RAW but in order to save on hardware wight/size it won't be capable of doing playback on its own/internally. Plus with all the monitors that have proxy recording out there it's not that big a deal since this little thing will also have a single 3G SDI.

Optional battery module to keep size down.

Frame Rates
5K Full at 48 fps widescreen at 72
4k Full at 72 fps widescreen at 96

No screen but sidekick style buttons.

As for a name I'd call this the RED P-Shooter but that's probably not what they'd go with. Maybe the R-Shooter?
Size probably 1/4 of an Epic Brain or about 3-4 times the size of a gopro, weight around 500-1000g.

Cost - between $2500-5000.

Ports will be: power, 3D SDI, Sync/control, and USB-3 or something to dump footage from.

This would be a great product category and really complete the RED system in a way that allows us to put a RED sensor ANYWHERE we want.

I said it in Jarred's facebook post and I`ll say it again. I bet it's the flying car. Or some kind of aerial transportation system. That's what has to do with time (flying saves you time) and space (it will alleviate urban traffic) and travel...

This is just a guess... but... given that jarred seems to have been posting a few "you know... Apple is really stepping up their game" posts on this forum and on Facebook for the past few months..

My money is on a RED that fits in your pocket running iOS with native Apple integration so everyone, young and old alike, can bask in the true glory of what it is to work with .r3d files...

Apple deals with the cell phone/interface... RED deals with the images and compression.

Both companies secure the next few generations of cinematographers by getting the tech into the hands of kids/families... peace out arri and avid.

(However... IF it is augmented reality glasses, then Jim.. if you're reading this... we work exclusively in human/machine interfaces and would love a crack at developing for them. www.ihmc.us )

So to be clear are we looking at something under $5,000. Would this be 4K for $4K?
