  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

I'm curious if itd be possible to record very high framerates at high resolution onto a ram drive? Similar to how the flex works. RAM has a much higher bandwith rate than Flash, so 4k at 1000fps should in theory be possible if the sensor is capable enough.

The sensor is the issue. The limitation is the read and reset speeds of "non-global" sensors. I believe there is also some limitation with the architecture of the circuitry in the camera. However Phantom I believe just came out with a 4K high speed camera, but I don't think it shoots raw. Someone out there please correct me if I'm wrong.

It will shoot to Phantom .CINE RAW and they're working on an "Industry Standard" codec, yet to be announced. It has been speculated that ProRes will be it but there is no solid word from VRI.

I have found that every camera in the world shoots raw, but not all of them delivers it .. two different things..

The redout speed on the sensor is another issue to overcome, when is about to get higher frame rates..
