  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

High definition viewing advice sought.

I am looking for some hardware & software that will enable me to better enjoy high-resolution TV.

My TV is a fullHD Sony 40X3500.

Blu-Ray DVDs are hard to find where I live, so I record HD broadcasts (1920x1088 at 25f/s) on my satellite receiver and play them back via a DVICO M-4130SH hard-drive media player.

The files I receive do not seem as good as the Blu-Ray disks themselves. Could somebody reading this suggest why this might be?

Blu-ray uses the "High capability Profile" with fidelity level 4.1, but after I reMux the TRP transport stream recorded files to M2TS files, the files have a "Main capability Profile" at level 4.

Would the satellite broadcasters be using Blu-ray DVDs to broadcast the files and removing the following techniques from the stream:
* Monochrome Video Format (4:0:0)
* 8x8 vs. 4x4 Transform Adaptivity
* Quantization Scaling Matrices
* Separate Cb and Cr QP control
which is the difference between the Main and High profiles, or is there another process going on that I can’t put my finger on?

The only other thing I know about my files is that they have CABAC compression with 2 reference frames.

The HD satellite broadcast has a maximum bitrate of 20 Mbit/s.

Any help or advice is gratefully appreciated.
