  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Is there any way to update the search function to be able to include words smaller than four characters? There are plenty of topics that are based around three letter words and numbers, like searching for build 18. 18 isn't long enough to register. Is updating the search tool an option?
 
YES!

Acronyms are so common in this industry, R3D, FCP, .MOV, etc, that searching for words under 4 letters is very important. I usually find myself using Google to search these forums (site:reduser.net r3d) but Google doesn't see the latest posts.

Removing the >4 limit would be fantastic.
 
unfortunately the site is so big when you lower it to 3 it causes an incredible load to the database.. but I will try it for a couple days.. see how it goes.

Thanks - but why not simply outsource the search to Google, like here: http://www.google.com/coop/cse?cx=004538409993496633550:nmlowi0wk0c - this search could be easily integrated as a simple search bar on top of every page.


You could custimize the colors of the resulting page, and for a couple of dollars you can even remove the advertising. No load on your servers for you, a better search experience for us. Also added bonus: you can include search in the red.com site, as done in this example. So many faq's could be caught that way as well.

(I just tried searching "ims" on reduser, got 1 answer. Searched for "r3d" got zero answers. The google solution gives bucketloads of answers.)

well then, it is not good enough. In these days and ages, it should index as you type. Or better yet, it should index you thoughts so I can search them before you even write them...

Ok i hacked in Google search in the Search options... can you guys test it out and let me know if it works?

I know its not very pretty yet.
