I have a promo coming up in a week with several big names, and i want to get the best look possible. i was wondering if anyone could tell me the best settings for red and the best lenses to get that 35mm look (or as close to it as possible) thanks guys.

That's a pretty broad question, as film itself has a lot of different looks. The RED will inherently create film like images pretty much on its own, but in general, the two ways to make it look like crappy video is to overexpose highlights, and use a 360 degree shutter (aka 1/24 of a second). As long as you use your zebra stripes to avoid clipping highlights and keep the shutter no slower than 180 degrees, the camera will mimic film.

Your DP will tell you. Afterwards you can try several things in post.

Julio, on a different camera (miniDV), a DP once told me that when shooting digital 1/25 was the best for film look. I found that it seemed to blur a little on pans and made the footage fuzzier, but that's what he wanted. I didn't agree but it was not my place to say at the time.
Im sure it is probably different on the Red, but why keep the shutter no slower that 180 degrees. What is the outcome?

With the Red if the shutter is less than 180 or 1/48 you introduce an unnatural ghosting or smearing. For a good example of this watch Miami Vice during the night scenes or Collateral during the cab scenes.

As for your DP wanting to shoot 1/25 on a mini dv camera to give more of a film look that depends. It depends on if it's a 24p, 30p, 50i, or 60i etc.

If you were to shoot at 60i than many would argue that 1/30 would look filmic.

If it were 50i then I would assume 1/25 would be accurate.

However, this is all fairly subjective because it still doesn't really look that much like film to most people.
