  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Hey Caterina

Good stuff. Why did you shoot in 2K?

At 3:00 when she's spinning... Is the other dude with a camera just some random guy or did you have someone following along taking some stills too?

Thanks. I shot it in 2K for easy editing on the MBP plus it was just her, a friend and I running around so I wanted to get as much time on the cards as I could without dumping. It was so she can send it back to her family while she was in NY. Fun little project.
We had a crowd at times and we had to stop shooting because I was afraid the cops would come and shut us down. We did it guerrilla style if you can call it that with the big Red on my shoulders. :) That guy was one of many people taking pics of her and asking for autographs.
You should have seen the crowd that formed when I was shooting my Pop artist I manage on 42nd. It was a mob scene. We just started walking through the crowd turned on a boom box and shot some performance scenes. Of course the REALLY REALLY crowded shot didn't get dumped some how. I have no idea how that happened because I'm really good about keeping track with what I'm doing.

Excellent! Any additional lighting or all available? Always seems well illuminated and you don't seem to have a noise issue, suggesting you didn't push it to the ends of the earth.

Any info you can give us on exposure, shutter, lenses etc.?

This was mostly available light. The beginning interiors I had a very small soft box for fill. I set the camera at 320sio for the interiors and blue scenes with the old train. Then bumped it up to 500iso for the night exteriors but then bringing it down to 400sio for 42nd st. I used fast 1.4 Zeiss ZF Primes on most of it and had a 17-35mm 2.8 for some of the 42nd street stuff. I left the shutter at 1/48.
A lot of the noisier shots I ran through REDalert! to test the new color science and it does a great job. You can see the difference with the shot when she picks up the magazine compared to the other night shots on 42nd.

Its always so much fun in NYC when you shooting somebody known without a photo or movie permit and the crowds start to gather then you have to sneak out before the cops show up. It is showbiz guerrilla style. Nice piece.

Thanks. I actually like the rush from it and can't wait to do it again. Its a great way to promote who ever you are shooting too. Next time my artist comes to NY we are going to shoot there again and hand out CDs at the same time since everyone comes over to watch.
