I know thats a very weird question. But i can borrow lenses.. so does a Dragon Sensor justify me being without lenses of my own?
Or is it best to wait and get the lenses?

GET THE LENSES!!! If you have a good deal on them, you can always upgrade to Dragon anytime in the future :yesnod:

I would wait for the final specs of the Dragon sensor and if possible test it when it becomes available so you can compare and see if the gains outweigh your need for lenses. If there is one piece of advice I could give to all Redusers, in particular people just entering this digital cinema world, that advice would be to think very carefully about your purchases. Test gear before buying as much as possible. Identify what you actually need versus the emotional response of wanting everything. It is very easy to fall into the trap of buying everything. The reality is, just when you think you've bought everything you thought you needed you realize there are ten more things that you still "need". I'm trying to take my own advice these days too. Lenses in particular can become an obsession and that obsession can lead to irrational decisions.

Words of wisdom.

I'd go for Lenses, for two reasons. First, it hasn't been established if you can charge more for a Dragoned Camera rental. I doubt you will be able to. With Lenses though that would be another part of your camera package that would be able to make you money allowing you to save up to get the Dragon. Second reason is that you've already got a great sensor with the MX, with out lenses though what good does that do you.

As a side note though I would be suspect on the quality of a lens set that would run you only 6K.

You are indeed a very wise man.

Thank you, Steve.

You can make your money back with the lenses now, since Dragon isn't even out yet, and when you get your Dragon it will look that much better.

Couldn't have said it better!

Great advice all around. I am definitely looking forward to the specs on the Dragon sensor. PatrickFaith makes a strong argument, though. For those stating lenses, what glass are we to get for 6k that would make a better investment than the Dragon if the sensor is everything we hope it will be?

Hi Patrick, what do you mean about the 25k ? are you saying the dragon is he better investment ? or the lenses?

25k is 19k + 6k ... my current estimation of a dragon epic cost.

if dragon gives 2 stops it is Almost 5x cost improvement over something like master primes ( ie mp cost around 25k each and you normally need 5 of them for a full set). Also mp's are beasts, I would love to have t1 type stops on a small lens ... would allow a ton of creative freedom. is a good time to just hang a bit and not buy expensive lenses until the dragon tests are public.
