Hello there, we are having a very weird issue when recording audio. We are not getting any audio or very low level audio on some proxies and r3ds when we look at them on the computer. On camera, when we play the files they sound fine, but not on the computer. Moreover the scenario is aleatory and sometimes even two clips on the same folder one plays audio very well and the other doesn't. In conclusion: We downloaded a CF card onto the computer, one file played OK the other had no audio. Settings on camera were the same for both files. 24fps, 1/48th shutter, channel 1 and 2 enabled. Set on LINE, audio coming from a mixer. When we check our files some of them play with audio and others dont, and even after exporting some r3ds on RA they come without any audio. VERY WEIRD!! We need to know how could this happen and figure out a way to solve it. We need that audio back!:help:

Esternan, I reported this phenomenon a while ago and got no response from the forum. i thought we this may be only a localized problem. The camera is rented out and I should be able to test it with the audio and see if I can create this same problem when i get a hand on it tomorrow- audio is good on the earphone but distorted when played back on proxies or rendered to prores - some clips are good and some are not - Lim

Thanks man, let us know whatever your process is with this matter.
I appreciate it.

Estebanred, I just got the Red that reported the audio problem during shooting. I tested it with a mic and the audio is good. Unfortunately i cannot recreate the problem that was reported. However, will monitor the audio again for the next shoot and see if the problem comes up again. Lim

Hi,
we were told to re install the firmware by tech support at red.
I think that maybe that might solve the problem for future occasions, but as for the recorded audio that generated the problem the thing could be to get out the audio from the 5 pin mini xlr. Although RED doesnt sell it.
I guess we will have to re install firmware and make sure it doesnt happen again. Eventhough this camera has the "soon to be changed audio board" we had never had any problem like this.
Anyway thanks and let's leave this thread open to see if anybody elsa has the same issue.
Thanks.

hey guys this same thing just happened to us on a shoot about a week ago!!( not getting any audio or very low level audio on some proxies and r3ds when we look at them on the computer. On camera, when we play the files they sound fine, but not on the computer) We re installed the firmware. no help. Sent camera back to red and they have no GOOD answers. Also did a shoot were we used false color and things looked fine on all monitors on set. When we took the footage to edit it was 3-4 stops underexposed! I put footage back on the camera and it looked nothing like the day of the shoot! Sent camera in red had no good answers. Have done many shoots with no problems but the last few months have been a nightmare!

Audio Phase error.

Audio Phase error.

Here is one possible explanation for this.

If you have your one of your input cables mis-wired, you could be then be sending out of phase signals to the camera. Due to the nature of the PPM metering and the way we perceive sound when monitoring via headphones a phase error would not be noticed, but when take to QuickTime or FCP it would.

Audio phase reversal is not something that happen "at random" in the hardware. The audio section has been extensively checked for that issue.
