Hello all. I've received Scarlet #1007 :thumbup1:

I am looking for input on setting up my Scarlet with my Chrosziel Mattebox and Follow Focus. They are both 15mm. I was initially going to go with a 19mm rod setup from RED, but I don't see a point as all my stuff is 15mm.

If I get the Quick Release Platform Dovetail system from RED, and the 15mm DSMC Universal Mount, will my accessories work? Is the spacing correct? I wanna use this with my 17-50mm RPZ.

Just wanna make sure before I make the purchase.

Thanks,
Dominick

Congrats! and what you're looking t as far as the 15mm/ quick release should work fine. They are set up for proper spacing. The only thing is that the modular assault plates are backordered so you may wait a while for that setup as well.

Modular Assault Plate? I know those have been backordered forever, maybe you misread my post? I was just going to use the regular Mounting Plate. Seems like all the parts I need are in stock.

Dom, I assume you mean 15mm lightweight (that's 60mm spacing) and not 15mm studio (that's 100mm offset spacing).

For 15mm lightweight, there are two choices form Red:
DSMC® MODULAR ASSAULT PLATE PACK, which locks into the QUICK RELEASE PLATFORM (DOVETAIL) or the QUICK RELEASE PLATFORM (BOLT-ON)
or
DSMC 15mm ADAPTOR (CENTERED), which fits onto the front of the QUICK RELEASE PLATFORM (DOVETAIL) (but apparently not the bolt-on version).

There are also options from Wooden Camera and Viewfactor.

If you are looking for 15mm Studio, you're kind of on your own. The universal mounts will not work. They are the correct spacing, but they do not have the required offset.

EDIT: If you have some kind of setup that uses the 100mm spacing and no offset, it should work, but that's a pretty rare configuration. (I actually have a pristine non-offset 15mm baseplate that I'd be happy to sell you. I'll never use it.)

Okay now I'm getting confused. I'm not sure which I need - studio or lightweight.

What I have is similar to this: http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/738788-REG/Chrosziel_AC_450W_EX1K3_MB_450W_R20_Kit_3.html

Only that's a newer version I guess.

I just need to figure out a way to mount the matte box and follow focus so I can use it with my Scarlet. I don't wanna get the modular assault plate pack as that is very backordered, so I'm looking for a different solution.

Okay just did some research. So it seems like there is no solution currently available from RED. I guess I will have to go with another method elsewhere.

Dominick: I have been asking myself the same questions you are ... however I have a Vocas 325 and I am still waiting for my Scarlet, and I think I have figured it out. What you have to determine is whether your matte box uses 15mm LWS rod spacing (that is 60mm lightweight spacing) or 15mm Studio rod spacing (that is 100mm spacing). Obviously, the rods are spaced further apart with 15mm Studio spacing. My Vocas uses 15mm LWS spacing, so the rods are closer together.

If you look at the 15MM universal mount you mentioned above (http://www.red.com/store/rail-compon...sal-mount-15mm) you can see that the holes for the rods are spaced quite far apart and the product description mentions a "15mm studio configuration."

If you look at the centered adapter mentioned by David Fuller above (http://www.red.com/store/rail-components/product/dsmc-15mm-adaptor-centered) you can see that the holes for the rods are not spaced that far apart and the product description mentions "lightweight 15mm configurations."

Another alternative might want to look at is the Allstar system.

I don't think Red does 15mm Offset on any of their products.

From what I gathered is, the offset was for film camera, and since they are a digital cinema company, there is no need, so they go with 15mm and 19mm standard.

O'Connor makes a great article about the difference between 15mm, 19mm, and 15mm offset.

Looks like it should (however all the solutions are quite expensive when you add up all the bits and pieces).

You might also want to look at the Element Technica system:

Or maybe the Wooden Camera system:

Let me know what you decide and how it works out, since I am not far behind you.

It seems like anyway I go it's going to cost quite a bit of money. At this point, I'd rather go the RED way since I don't have any of these parts yet.

Thanks for your help Bill! I will definitely let you know how it goes when all my bits and pieces come in.

What's wrong with Allstar? They look quite a bit less expensive – any bad experiences around here?

RED's components are great. You will absolutely not regret getting that dovetail plate. RED's quick-release system is the best I've ever used. The dovetail + 15mm centered riser/adapter is what you want for 15mm LWS rods at the correct height. Make sure and get a long dovetail ($150) and the quick release plate for the camera and you'll be all set. Redrock Micro's 15mm rods are nice IMO. You can order them from Adorama on Amazon with free shipping and no tax... and they ship a lot quicker than Redrock will from my experience. http://tinyurl.com/AdoramaRedrockRods

Thanks Peter! She is a beauty!

And thanks for the reassurance Trevor. Yep, I was planning on going with the long dovetail. I can put it on my 501 head, right? That sounds awesome. Here's a picture of how I set it up for now. Can't put the matte box on there though...

Yes, you can put the dovetail directly on your 501's plate. But man, you've got that thing pretty maxed out, weight-wise!

If this is what you have, you need 15mm lightweight. There are options from Red, Viewfactor and Wooden Camera for that.

I think it's definitely time for a new tripod. This is from back in my Sony FX1 days. I don't even remember what the weight limit was, haha.
