  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Help!! Serious artifacting!

Downloading, but in the meantime:

I've seen monitor-related banding, could that be it?

To what format are you developing the files?

Please describe the exact steps you used to get this result.

That is some nasty artifacting, I've never had anything like that.
Please outline the steps you are taking, and the settings you are applying.
Also, what codec you are exporting to.

I'm using Red Alert. Half Debayer to DnxHD. Scaled down to 1920 x 1080. I've tried ALL the resample filters.

The current file i've posted is in H.264. For file size purposes. It looks a touch better in DnxHD

thanks Gunleik

That just looks like H264 8 bit banding. Are you getting the same thing when you export to ProRes? What about if you export a tiff?

Matthew

Here's a 2K tiff. Everytime i try to crush the blacks, it increases the artifacts.

Just did another test with prores. it was clean!!! it could be the DnxHD codec then.

Eternally grateful to you guys. Now i gotta convince the director to cut on FCP.....

cheers,

yean

There's frankly a lot of issues here...

Could you export 1 single tiff (16 bit) as REDlog, set asa to 200 and kelvin to 5000?

Pretty please? :)

Oh no.... the prores clip still had the artifacting! i was fitting the clip to screen and there was no artifacting. in its actual resolution/size, the 'uglies' were still there!!! sigh...

help??

i found that the more i crush the blacks....i can get to a level where the artifacting disappears...but its a bit extreme....

it was 4K 16:9....redcode36

there's also some artifactin when i render out uncompressed quicktime...but very minimal

What area of the picture are you seeing artifacts?

Have you got all settings to FULL Quality ?

Ok.. get that Uncompressed clip, load into quicktime and export as ProResHQ. Does the banding come back?

did that....clips are almost identical....banding still there..

i'm in RedAlert...half debayer..scaled to 1920 x 1080....catmulrom resample filter
