SO I just got home from film shoot and for the 1st time in 2 and half years I have had an issue like this.

Our B camera flying on a steadycam failed to cut, we waited several minutes. No posting, nothing...just a complete lock up. We were shooting in a live show and being forced to pack it up so decided to power down.

I went to down load drive, previous takes were there but the 3rd one was just a single R3D file that was about 66K in size? wtf

The same take on the A Cam was about 100GBs so you can imagine my reaction to all thisl. :emote_headwall:

My 1st thought is RED undead but I have no experience with it...anyone ever had this happen? The last thing I want to do is tell producers we have to do this entire show again...thanks in advance for any advice.

Yes, please email myself and dan duran (duran at red) so one of us can help quickly.
Also send me the log files.

Yeah running REDundead...its a great app and is currently pulling every R3D on the drive it can find, just not my show unfortunately. It got to my folder in question...exported about 800 MBs (of what should be closer to 100GB) and then moved on to export R3Ds from other peoples projects so its looking bleak. Drive is no longer in my possession.

For the future, if you really want to try and retrieve something, but the media drive will be taken away, you should do a byte by byte clone of the drive onto a spare drive, which you can then work on at your leisure. There are freeware/shareware utilities out there on MAC and PC. Even better, as they are working on a low level, they don't care what file system is being used on the drive. It will take quite a long time though!
