Hi,

Sorry if this has been asked before.

We recently shot a film on the RED One and shot our VFX shots at 60 FPS at 2K at the request of our animator who wanted extra frames for motion tracking. After transcoding through FCP, the footage appears to play back only at 23.98 (ie Slo-Motion). My concern is that the shots ultimately need to play back at full speed so how do I go about converting them to do so? Ideally, FCP would transcode them at 60 FPS as we expected but there doesn't seem to be a way to do that either. Any ideas?

Thanks for your help!

Ok, after doing some digging we've discovered that what likely happened was that we shot with a project framerate of 24P, and used Varispeed to get our 60 FPS and thus creating the slow motion effect. Is there any way of undoing or speeding up the footage so that it plays at a normal speed?

Try speeding the footage up by 39.98% in FCP (Menu>Modify>Speed)

Assuming you shot in 23.98, not actual 24

You're not going to be able to retime the R3D. But if you're rendering out to a proxy format, you can run the proxies through Cinema Tools and reconform to 60fps.

Just be aware that you can't have 2 different framerates in the same timeline.

Are you sure? I just opened up a random video clip in Cinema tools, and 60 wasn't an option...

Edit: neither was 59.94, which is what I assume is meant by 60.

QtChange should be able to do the retiming, at least on ProRes footage.

Excellent, thanks a lot everyone for your responses and advice. Really appreciate it. I will try out the different options and see which one(s) work the best for this situation.

Many thanks,
Lee

Hey all, I ended up using QtChange as recommended by Uli Plank and it corrected the problem without any noticeable problems.

Thanks again for all the help!
