HELP - Nikon Lens Mount Question

I picked up an optitek nikon mount and tried installing on my new-to-me r1mx. I can't get rid of the harness and it seems as if i'm missing a mount between the body and lens mount. What is that mount called? Is it an necessity?

The bottom picture with the cable tucked in is where you install the ProLock mount.
