Hello Guys,

Looking to see what my options are when needing to send r3d files through the web.

I've been using Dropbox (have a 100GB limit there), Wetransfer (free version gives me 2GB) and Media Shuttle (awesome, SUPER fast, but have to pay $50/month).

Dropbox, while great for organization takes forever to upload footage...one 4GB file takes 5 hrs!

I'm looking for a solution where I can send files ranging from 3 GB and upwards...these files should have been there yesterday!

Looking forward to hearing from you all.

I see you have your own site.. Have you tried using your server for FTP purposes? I send at least 100GB worth of files via FTP per month. Mostly selects reels and such, works great, and is quite fast. You can even further boost your upload speed by hosting the FTP server in your office if you have a business account for internet allowing you to host a server. Then uploading to your server in house is incredibly fast and then your client can view the footage as fast as they can download it. I use a remotely hosted FTP server for some things and a locally hosted FTP server for others. Both work wonders.

Just installed COPY right now and using that, works same as DropBox, doesn't seem like it's any faster, but I'll let the file load. (200-300kps).

Yandek Disk, same concept, uploads at a steady 450ish kps

As far hosting it on my own site, I had a friend recommend that to me, but I'm not that savvy with the whole web-hosting world, and also my website was done via "squarespace" so don't know if all of that is possible.

So far, Media Shuttle is great, a 4 GB file, takes about 45 minutes to upload, fastest of all the file transfer sites/programs I've came across. But after 30ish GB of transferring, you have to pay $50/month. If I were doing file transfers on a regular basis, it might be worth the investment.

Most post houses I know tend to use Aspera to transfer files from country to country... isn't the cheapest solution out there though.

I have unlimited bandwith through Dreamhost, and as long as you don't keep your files on there for a long period of time you can just transfer files through FTP.

It wont be as fast as some of the other options listed above but it will be cheaper. Just depends on how fast you need the files to show up.

If you're sending to just one destination, you could cut out the middleman by sending directly there. Get the recipient to install an ssh server, then use rsync. Not sure if its compression will help much on R3D's but at least it's good at recovering from errors when the internet stalls.
