Trying to help out a client of mine who has set up an array of monitors (about 4 monitors across and 3 down) making it a resolution of about 5300x2300.

He is exporting mp4 video at 5K to display on the monitor array, but both in the playback on the computer and when displayed on the monitor array, the playback stutters as if the hardware can't handle the render. Like it is skipping frames because it's trying to handle too much information.

He edits in Adobe Premiere CS6 and edits Raw Red files and then exports to a 5K mp4 video. The editor sees the stuttering effect while editing within Premiere which maintains in the export.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Daniel

Is the stutter visible in RCX-Pro? If so, it might have been a shutter artifact. Besides that, I'd look to graphics cards or CPU - You'd need a serious system to decode an MP4 of that size and split it across so many displays. I don't even know of any single card that has that many outputs so spanning GFX cards would be required - which breeds all kinds of issues.

The stutter is NOT visible in RedCine X when viewing playback at 1/2 quality or less.

May have found a solution by converting the R3Ds to Pro Res 422 5k files before editing in Premiere. Could it just be the raw R3Ds in Premiere giving the issues?

You first need to eliminate the possibility that some sort of strange gremlin is affecting your renders. I'd try rendering a 1080p mp4 from the 5k r3d timeline, if that skips frames etc, you have a bug.
