Hey so a quick background. In 2014 I followed directions I found on the tonymac86 site to put together a hackintosh build. I followed the "CustoMac Pro" build, and for a couple years it was great.
Although I can still get through UHD footage and R3D editing, it has definitely become pretty slow for a lot of processes I am doing regularly. I don't actually know very much about computers, all of the different components, and what is currently on the market. I was able to learn some by building this machine when I built it, but I'm hoping for/need some advice.
The end result doesn't need to be an insanely powerful top of the line beast, but something up there that can easily handle 5k Scarlet-W footage would be great. I am a cinematographer and director on most gigs but I do edit some personal projects and would like to have a good machine that will last me another few years.
My main questions are, what should I upgrade and what can I keep using? If I upgrade one thing, say the graphics card, does everything else need to be upgraded to make it worth while? Where can I save some money by using what I already have? Any other tips?
Here are the main components of my current build.
- Intel Core i7 477OK (3.5ghz , 8MB Cache) - https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00CO8TBQ0/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o06_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
-EVGA GeForce GTX760 Graphics card - https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00DHW4HXY/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o06_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
- GIGABYTE GA-Z87X-UD3H Motherboard -https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813128592
- 16GB (Two 8GB) Corsair Vengeance LP - https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820233280
- Samsung 850 EVO 500GB SSD - https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00OBRE5UE/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o03_s01?ie=UTF8&psc=1
- 1TB esata HDD
- NZXT H230 ATX MID TOWER
-Corsair 650W Power
Am I forgetting anything? Any help would be so so apprecaited!
Thanks
