01. 29.97fps FCP timeline of Red 23.98 footage in Prores 4444

02. Exported to XML

3. Open in Clipfinder

4. Switched footage command- Mov to r3d

5. Ran the conform

6. Opened in Color (29.97fps 4444 project) and spent the day there

Please HELP!!!

David,

First thing I tried with no success!!! Going back and starting again from the top!!! Arrgghhhh!!!!!

I'm pretty sure the source of the trouble is the 23.98 clips in the 29.97 timeline. Despite the various improvements, Color is still *VERY* picky about certain things, and frame rate conversion is definitely one of them.

In general, it's a good policy to do any conversion (Frame-Rate, Aspect ratio, resolution) at either the very beginning of your project (L&T stage) or at the very end. Given the RAW nature of red workflows, the very end makes more sense. So if you shot 23.98, edit 23.98, grade 23.98 and then *export* 29.97

agreed, that workflow makes the most sense, it's just adding pulldown in the end to make it 29.97, and it's a very common conversion. Change your timeline settings back to 23.98 to match your footage, re-apply grades in color (hopefully you saved all your settings by the clip) and bring it back FCP, final QT export can be 29.97. If for some reason you absolutely need a 29.97 timeline, you can duplicate your sequence that came out of color, and just go into sequence settings and make it 29.97 and render. Done. should only take u a few hours depending on how big ur project is.
