CS6 PP and AME Not Exporting Red Scarlet Project! It keeps stalling less than a quarter into the render! :(

I have a 2009 8-core Mac Pro with 8gb Ram & Nvidia GTX285 2GB Graphics card

I'm thinking the issue might be with the graphics card possibly, but I have not had a chance to disable the mercury playback engine and try that yet as I just read that might help....

I never once had this issue in CS5 with Red One footage using my older Radeon HD 4850 512mb and software mercury playback engine.

Hopefully I can figure this mess out, any advice would be much appreciated!

AJ

Thanks for the advice but I have already tried this as well. I'm going to try and do the reboot method without ever opening Premiere Pro and go straight to the encoder to see if this helps at all. I'm also switching the Mercury Playback Engine to (software only) to see if that helps any. If that does not work I will switch graphics cards and see if that does the trick. Keep your fingers crossed!

Hi Adam,

Please feel free to contact me for help or questions and please let me know if software rendering fixes the issue. I'm guessing that it will. Do you have a Quadro card that you could try?

Best,

Hi Wes!

Thanks for you support. I sincerely hope it fixes my issues as well. Unfortuantely all I have in terms of graphics cards is a Nvidia GTX285 2GB Graphics card and an older Radeon HD 4850 512mb.

Thanks,
AJ

Adam,
I'm assuming you're trying a software render right now?

Feel free to give me more specifics on your project and your computer. Is it 5k, 4k? What are your timeline settings? Are you scaling your media? Are you using filters in PR? Are you using any 3rd party filters?

Wes

i have run into this problem before, it seems that the RED files don't mix so well with titling and effects. During rendering. and it freezes at those points.
One solution is to render a cut clean with just cuts. and then add the effects and titling to that render.

I know this is not a good solution.
Anybody got a better solution please post here.

Yeah, it's a total bitch. I changed the Mercury Playback Engine to (Software Only) that allows the render to make progress. I even got 95% done one time, but then it crashes with an "Unknown error!" and tells me "Error Compiling Movie". Any help would be greatly appreciated!

FWIW, I've been rendering away for 2 days now trying to repro this issue.

I've been doing some stress testing on a 2010 8 core Nehalem Mac with 16 GB of RAM. I have a Quadro 4800. I have been exporting multiple layers of RED files with titles and have had zero issues.
I've been rendering with and without CUDA and with and without a RED Rocket. My Mac has always been solid, however I do have 16 GB of RAM which is really helpful, IMO.

At this point, we just need to think about what the variables are and try to isolate them. If any of you can provide assets to a project that is failing, I'm more than happy to try it on a few machines on my end. If you can condense the project and still reproduce any failures that would be ideal. I'm willing to work with users to get source assets, etc. As always - feel free to e-mail me at whowell at adobe.

I'll have to try to mix in some h.264 files into a timeline. (what size are your H.264's, Chris?) 2k? 4k? etc. I'll keep running renders the remainder of this week. Keep the info coming.

If anyone has any project (no matter how unique it may be, multiple layers, muted layers, etc as mentioned above) Please get in touch with me so I can reproduce any issues and get them fixed.

I've have my share of mysterious problems with the Mac gtx285 in Premiere...
My gtx460 on pc works fine though

My recommendations for the minimum system requirements for editing RED footage:

Nehalem processor or better / newer (I7)
8 cores if the machine is a couple years old.
16 GB of RAM
Quadro 4000 - especially on MAC

I have seen a huge drop in stablity and performance when working with machines that are under this threshold. Especially when working with 4k and 5k footage.

After 3 days of hair pulling and calling support to adobe (sorry adobe call centre in india, you guys really hung me dry on this one), I decided to turn my CUDA off before render to software mode.
And now it renders. It seems there's a conflict bug between invidia graphics card (quadro ) running CUDA and CS6.

now I can rest and go to sleep.

Charles,

Very sorry that you've been having problems.
I left my e-mail in the posts above offering direct contact. Would you contact me directly so I can try to reproduce this on my end?
Maybe you can tell me which quadro card you were using, provide a bit more info on your machine config, project, etc

I have been rendering complex projects on my Macs for months and can't reproduce any of these failed renders with my hardware configuration.
Would love to get any more info / repro steps / etc.

Best,
Wes
