Hi im working as a DIT on a feature in sweden.

I have had problems with two flashcards. When i got them from cam dep. for backup there was no R3D files to be found! What was there was 3 (0 KB) files with the extension ".R@C" ... really weird. I reported this back to the DOP but we had no time to reshoot.

The cam dep. said that they didnt see any problems during the recording.
We changed CF reader on cam and no problems have occurred after that.
Hopefully the cam have written something to the card! If so is there a way of getting the data recovered?

Have tried Data Recovery 2 but it cant find any R3D files. Just a bunch of weird .gz files.

Were these Red CF Cards?

When you say you changed CF reader on cam, do you mean you have a new CF module for the camera?

There are a number of recovery programs out there, but you may be doomed if the original files were never recorded in the first place.

How was the card formatted? In camera?

Yes it was normal RED CF cards. Yes we changed the module on the actual cam. The card was formatted in camera.

Did you try making a copy, then on the copy change the extension to .r3d?

Not sure if that would work, but might be worth a try.

It looks like filesystem corruption which usually occurs from pulling the card without ejecting first (on camera or computer).

Contact Brent about recovery options through Red.
