  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Wondering if anyone else is having an issue where There is a drastic shift in color response at 2K (2KHD in particular).

The most peculiar thing accompanying this color shift is a green band at the bottom portion of the screen.

It appears at 2KHD 240fps, and also at 2KWS at 300fps.

I thought it was a problem with the Beta firmware so I updated to the latest release FW, and I still have it. This is on Epic-W Helium.

Probably just a readout calibration thing particular to Helium Sensor?

I did several black shading passes auto and manual to see if that would change it. Nope.

Posting to see if I'm the only one or if this is an issue for others too. I have no doubt it will be resolved.

Obviously I don't shoot in the lighting conditions shown here, but this was to make the aberration very apparent.

I'm on mobile right now so couldn't open the file, but what you are describing is something I have also on mine and have sent a ticket a couple weeks back. Last thing I heard was that it was replicated on their end so probably a firmware update would fix it.
Also on my Epic-W not only 2k but all the way up to 5k I could see the green banding line you are describing. Only thing is that the more resolution, the thinner the line is. And it is recorded to the prores proxies as well. The higher resolutions are harder to see the green line in the bottom, but it is there (on mine at least). You can try recording 120fps prores 2k with 5k WS FOV, and see if it's there.
The oddity is that the latest firmware added some new FPS settings that were a little higher than the one before, and selecting those new FPS settings got rid of the green line.
I'm sure we'll see a fix soon.

Edit: Just had a look at the files. Exact same thing on mine. The color shift also happens on some combination of 2k and high FPS. Also, can you spot on the monitor? On mine, the line on the 2k file is big enough that I can spot it on the 4.7" monitor as well, but on the other resolutions it gets too small to see on the monitor, but it is on the recorded footage.

It's so sharp that it looks like a sensor issue for RED.
But...

A long shot maybe:
What temp is your sensor calibration at right now?

Try 44 degree's & shoot something again, I had similar (but not the same/bad) line as you once on a HELIUM with a 37 degree sensor calibration.

A 'Manual' calibration (unless you have the 55mins for an Auto?) will be fine just for the purposes of elimination.

No promises but ANYTHING other than 44 degree's IMO can do some odd things.
