Has anyone tried a RED One Helishooting with an easyrig ( http://www.easyrig.com ) in that way that the cam is not on the shoulder but between the legs or on the lap. Want to use the RED Zoom 18mm-50mm with an 2xExtender. (3K 48fps on CF Card) Because of the Budget no Tyler- or Nosemount is possible.
Any experiences on this? wobbling? wiggling? Jiggling?

PS: Heli would be an AS 350 B3

thx

great question, yeah Its doable, if you practice. maybe with a swing?
the more you zoom in of course the more motion of the rig will affect the
image.... does the lens morion enhance or hinder the story? etc.

On Terra Firma, the EZ Rig lets you shoot comfortably for hours. Its a wonderful
stabilizer. If the Helo has room and the operator is tethered for security. great
shots await. just be safe.

PS Sweet Heli- Good Luck!

Funny, I was just thinking of this set up... I wouldn't do it, doesn't seem safe to me.

I haven't used an Easyrig in a helo so I can't say for certain. But it seems like you would want to ride the skids and having the arm above your head outside the helo...

Inside, is there room to wear the rig?

If you did use one remember to add additional safety bonds on camera!

I have an easy rig and tried to shoot from a jetranger, I was unable to use it because the height of the rig hits the roof of the ranger although you can adjust the vertical position of the rig you can't shorten it, at leased on mine which was one of the first out

Easyrig on Heli? Not a good idea.
I did tried on Heli and a boat = Super Pain

Having been in a helicopter crash while filming, I would say an easyrig would not be a good thing in terms of safety.

That's a good point steve. What happened...i'm intrigued.

Tail rotor failure in a bell jet ranger above Newgrange burial mound near dublin. Filming for the bbc. Side door off, climbing harness and straps attaching me to the helicopter interior. The footage from my camera makes for sobering viewing. Pilot broke his back. I was busted up, but nothing broken (banging around on the outside of the helo, as it spun and bounced down the hill, like a puppet on a string - according to witnesses). Off work for a couple of weeks....insurance was a bit of a nightmare, but that's another story. Always wear a helmet now, when filming in helicopters.

Crash can happen even if you shooting in or on the car, track, motorbike, golf car, plane also any motor movable dolly, crane or even on segway or with in-line skating...

Btw, EasyRig 3 cine 700 ( I do have it) would fits perfect with

The new Tyler MiniGyro>>>

There is also the contact for Austria on that page.

The tyler mini gyro does work well. But the height of the easy rig means that once it is on your back it will not fit through the doorway of most helicopters.

The combination of the 2, easyrig and tyler mini gyro, in my experience from over 100 helicopter filming flights, would not be worth pursuing. The mini gyro works because of the gyros and the weight of the rig moving up and down on the shock absorber which you can see in the photos. You rest the min gyro on the floor of the helicopter, if you are sitting with your legs out of the door, or on the seat between your legs if you are sitting sideways on the rear seat. Suspending it on an easy rig would stop the shock absorber from working.

thank you colleagues,

I know that safety in the air is a special concern, I´m used to hangliding and had some bad experiences, SteveG I feel with you...

My idea is to sit on the Heli´s floor have my feet on the skids (backed by a harness, camera saved also) and finally the easyrig should support the stabilization much better than my body alone...

I´ll do some additional tests with the smaller (lower) version "Turtlerig" on a roof of a car in a heavy terrain and I´ll see what happens..

But it seems that nobody would be worried about the shots (footage) itself, is this correct?

@Kwan Khan: What was the problem?

thx

Your call, but would seriously advise not using the easyrig.

.

You will probably find that if you go any tighter than 50 mm, you will get too much vibration. Best to stick wide if you are going hand held or with your easyrig set up. Tight lens shots only really work when you have one of the expensive nose mounts. There is a reason why shows like the BBC's Blue Planet and the upcoming Frozen Planet spend hundreds of thousands of pounds shipping gyron stabilized nose mounts all over the world. They are the only bits of kit that get you those kinds of shots with real wow factor. You can get good shots out of the side door, by keeping it on the wide end, but trying to get tight shots will, in my experience, only lead to frustration.

I was shooting in Helicopter 2 weeks ago . Without any rig . It is crazy but it is possible .
After few year of experience can say that easyrig will help you , but
not in all cases . Also main problem is helicopter :) .Don not use USSR helicopter :)
Check footage that we shoot without any stabile or rig .
