Headphone Output Static

Hello, we've been having an intermittent problem with loud, continuous static coming from the headphone output on our RED ONE (#104). We're on build 17-4.3.1 and have the new audio board installed. We tried to reinstall build 17, and after rebooting, there was a brief blast of static and then it went away--until we rebooted again. Luckily, this issue does not seem to affect the quality of audio recording, just monitoring.

I did a search for other posts about headphone static on REDUSER and was only able to find a couple of posts from a while ago, which seemed occur around build 12, but the threads never indicated a solution or resolution to the problem.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Have you checked for a bad headphone connection? Could be a dirty jack, worn plug surface, cold solder joint or loose connection in plug, etc. Try a contact cleaner such as Craig Pro Gold. Try another set of cans (headphones) known to be good. I hope that's all it is.

Hey Paul, thanks for your suggestions. It seems to have fixed itself somehow (for today, at least). Booted our cam and there was static again, but as I plugged and unplugged the headphones (different phones than before), the static seemed to diminish in volume and then disappeared. Rebooted a couple of more times and no static at all. I'll boot it again tomorrow and see what it gives me then! Glad my problem seems to have gone away, but troubling that there doesn't seem to be any rhyme or reason why it comes or goes, and thus might be prevented.
Thanks again,

You could try unplugging all cables from the body and holding down the power button for 11 seconds, to discharge all built-up power. Then boot up again. Not sure if it would do anything but worth a try if it shows up again and is not the headphones.
