  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Hi guys
Have read through most of the posts on the Rocket threads regarding HDSDI output form the card. There seams to be a bit of mixed responses to the question and I would like a bit of clarification.

From my understanding a Redrocket with no Breakout box can output an HDSDI form the 2 BNC outputs that come with the card. SDI A will output a single HDSDI signal where as SDI B will only be used for duel link SDI outputs in combination with SDI A, is this correct?

The reason I ask is I have been unable to output a "clean" image from either SDI A or B using various settings in the Rocket monitor window in RedcineX. When connected to SDI A or B and set to RGB8 @ 1920/1080 25FPS it produces a green and purple tint image. This looks like part of a dual link signal but I need to send a single HDSDI out of the Redrocket to an HDSDI in for on set monitoring on the video split monitor, which has single HDSDI inputs.
How can I set the output to be a single HDSDI out from one of the 2 BNC outputs on the Redrocket using RedcineX?

My system is:
Macpro 2 X quad cores 2.8GHZ
8GB RAM 800MHZ
ATI Radeon HD 2600
MACOSX 10.6.6
Redrocket installed in slot 2 (working well for playback and render speeds)
Driver v1.3.3 and firm Ware v1.1.8.6
Using RedcineX262

Thanks for your help.
Nir.

I had this problem too back in Dec.
Fixed by using latest REDCineX build 351.

Thanks for that but 351 appears to be a windows version as there is no OS download for RCX351 on the downloads history of the Red support page.
Any later versions seam to not have Redrocket support!!? and I can't afford to install anything that will put my currant Redrocket play back ability at risk.

What options do we have for RedcineX R3D real time stable playback on a Mac?

Any help would be greatly appreciated Red.
Thanks, Nir.

Yes there is a Mac version, I'm using it :)

RGB vs YUV

Good to see you have gone the Rocket! Presently shooting in Sri Lanka so can't test on my system. I don't know what sort of monitor you are using but if it's a broadcast monitor I would have thought you would set your output to YUV. RGB I think is only good for computer style monitors.

Hey Tom.
Sri Lanka wow hope the shoots going well.

I have actually had the Rocket for a while but as a result of an injury I sustained in an accident had to take a few months off. Am better now and on a long job so haven't had the time to test my system with an HDSDI monitor.

I tried YUV and RGB, YUV gave no image where as RGB at least gave a strange green and purple tint image.

Not sure if it is a settings or build version issue to get the Rocket to send an image to an HDSDI monitor.
Will try the 351 build Eric can you send me the link to it?

Thanks,
Nir.

Thing is that unless you have an RGB8-bit monitor (which is very unlikely) you should set it at YUV for 8 8 bit output.

Try it. Has worked as long as the outputs have worked.

You most likely will want to go RGB only if you have a 10 bit monitoring solution...

Thus: What you're seeing, is how it's supposed to work...

Hi Gunleik as I mentioned before I haven't been getting any image out of the card with a YUV signal and there for my initial post. You could be rite though about the outputs them selves may very well be that I have faulty outputs on the card. Will keep trying a few more goes before its RMA time...

Thanks for the link Artur will try it out tomorrow.

Sorry if that came off wrong, Nir!

re-reading the thread, I see your yuv info...

then this may be a hardware thingy.

Do you have access to a 10-bit monitor to test the rgb chain?

As I see in your system spec you are not running the latest firmware and driver as RCX. So you should update first the driver then the rocket firmware and then RCX to 356.
Then change your video out settings to YUV. Close RCX and restart the app.
If you dont get a picture look if your cables connected properly on the card...if there comes no signal your card would be faulty.....

Driver and firmware updates worked am using RCX351 and sending picture to the split monitor it looks great.

Because we're Hollywood wrapping every day now I just leave the system setup on set and have no access to an internet connection... So had to bring in all the updates manually on memory sticks and it is working well now.

Thanks for the advice guys.
